Actor Danny Trejo had some interesting things to say to Fangoria over his role in Halloween and his Grindhouse faux trailer, Machete. Obviously, Grindhouse failed at the box office but that's not stopping rumors for future projects relating to the Tarantino/Rodriguez masterpiece. Eli Roth (who also made a faux trailer, Thanksgiving) has already discussed making a Faux Trailer feature film and now Danny Trejo is continuing to hint towards something more relating to his own Machete.
When Trejo was asked about Rodriguez being busy at work on the upcoming remake of the 60s cult classic Barbarella and the likelyhood of a Machete movie, he responded with;
“We already have a screenplay for it,” the actor reveals. “It’s really cool and wild, plus I’m in the best shape of my life now. It’s the moment to do it. You should all write letters to Robert Rodriguez saying, ‘Shoot MACHETE now!!!’ [Laughs]. He’s attached to BARBARELLA these days, but I believe this is the movie he should be making. Machete deserves his own film.” As opposed to what has been stated on several Internet sites, “MACHETE would be a theatrical release,” according to Trejo. “I believe it’s based on Spy Kids character [of the same name], because Robert was always joking about what Machete did when he wasn’t taking care of the kids. This story is different and darker, though. It’s more action-oriented.”
When asked about him reuniting with Rob Zombie (he was a character in The Devil's Rejects) in the upcoming update of Halloween, Trejo responds;
“I play the guy in charge of Michael Myers while he’s a child, in the asylum,” says Trejo, who shares these scenes with DEVIL’S REJECTS co-star Lew Temple. “I’m the hospital attendant who takes care of him, and I become kind of his mentor. In a way, I’m responsible for what he becomes later on in the movie. It’s a new story, not the same film all over again. You can expect to see how it all began and how this guy became a mass murderer, and be surprised by an all-new line of characters and situations.”
Obviously, whatever the case on the possibility of Machete becoming a feature film, Danny Trejo continues to be a busy man. Not bad at all for a man who's appeared in over 100 movies of all genres.
