VARIETY reports the death of Jerry Sohl at 88, a science fiction author and scriptwriter whose television credits included episodes of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, and THE OUTER LIMITS as well as original-series work on STAR TREK.

Mr. Sohl's novels included THE TRANSCENDANT MAN, THE MARS MONOPOLY, and THE ALTERED EGO.

His STAR TREK episodes are "Whom Gods Destroy", with Lee Erwin, and the classic "The Corbomite Maneuver", which featured a very young Clint Howard as Balok. Presumably that means that Sohl was the originator of tranya. Let's hope he savored it as do we.
