Trial Schedule Likely Delaying WATCHMEN

By: Jarrod Sarafin

It looks like there's going to be a delay for Warner Bros.' Watchmen after all. Previous reports had the film in shaky territory after the courts approved the 20th Century Fox lawsuit against the WB for copyright infringement but we didn't know when the trial would take place or if it would be resolved before next March, the time when the Zack Snyder-directed film was supposed to hit theaters. The New York Times has published another article focusing on the issue between the two sides and has passed along that there is two likely time periods as to when the trial will take place.

April or June.

Fox has said it will seek an injunction blocking Warner's planned release of the film next March. Warner has argued that Fox should not be allowed to stop the movie, after standing by while Warner and its partners on the film, Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures, spent more than $100 million on the production, directed by Zack Snyder ("300").

The report also outlined conflicting requests for a trial date: as early as next June, if Fox has its way, or April, if Warner prevails.

If this trial timing comes true and the studios don't resolve their issues before hand, it seems very likely that Watchmen will not be hitting theaters March 6, 2009.

I hate to be the idiot that said, I told you so, but I did say that the release would be delayed and probably not come out until Fall or Xmas 09. This Sucks! Big Time! Thanks FOX! You aren't happy ruining our collective TV lives with your awful reality TV saturated, canceling decent show every 5 seconds programming. You feel now its your duty to ruin out movie lives. Bastards!!

What if they settle it before then? Hell, don't be the idiot pony, just be the person who told us so.

Shame fox doesent have any crappy "mega blockbuster wannabes" we could pretend to letter write and boycott to get them to get this shit taken care of.

Like say an X-Men 4: Ratner's Magnum Opus. We could lie and bullshit tell them we refuse to see it until they give up the case with WB or settle, if they don't let Watchmen come out and stop punishing fans. Tell `em we all wanted to see X4 but sorry, you bunch of jerks are holding a good movie hostage.

Well, gives them more time to work on Watchmen I guess.

What we could do is boycott everything Fox releases at the Theaters until they drop this crap or agree to let the movie be released. They may not have anymore blockbusters coming out for awhile, but if the fans walked away from every movie Fox made eventually that would hurt. If we needed to we could even stop watching their network, however I am hesistant to move forward with that suggestion because that would give those idiots at Fox an excuse to cancel Terminator, 24, and Prison Break and replace it with So You think you Paradise Temptation Shopping Mall. I am not the biggest Watchmen fan, but I hate that studios can pull this kind of garbage. After the writer's strike last year I feel like the industry owes us a few years of smooth sailing and less conflicts.

I'm still making the call, this won't be delayed! They'll settle out of court or come to some kind of agreement. We will all be watching it next March! Write it down!

If I can't see this movie on March because of fuckin Fox I will boycott Fox films until further notice. Yes, that includes Wolverine. I won't pay for any of their movies, gonna pirate or netflix them.
I understand Fox's beef but what pisses me off is the fact they waited so long to act. I mean, WB didn't film Watchmen in a day. Where was Fox back when WB was announcing the cast, or getting the director, etc etc.?

TheScriber • Sep 01, 2008, 07:40am •
shit I pirate and netflix most of that shit anyways. But I will take it to another level if I dont get to see this in march. yup fuck fringe, sc chron, and temptation island. . . . um I mean 24 yeah Keifer Sutherland is tha shit. if it does get delayed you know zack will be busy working on the new 300 movie.

ps wheres my damn g.i. joe trailer im getting itchy.

I've been thinking about this, like the moron I am. Shit, why didn't Fox throw a fit when WB started to film Watchmen? I think for one reason. They wanted to make sure it was in the bag. SO the WB would HAVE to shell out when they take it to court, or threaten to, or delay it. I mean if they demanded their "rights" of consultation at the start of the movie, WB could have just dropped this movie like it's been dropped so many times before and probably sold whatever right they had to it, or just shelve it indefinitely. I mean movie studios lose money all the time. In pre-production they might not have considered it too big a loss.

By waiting for the movie to be done, or mostly done to the point it's been shown to the fans, the WB is pretty committed to finishing and releasing it, Fox would then technically or potentially have the WB by the balls so to speak to milk the project for more money, with minimal work on Fox's part. I mean what do they really have to do, send in the Lawyers? I mean it's a movie studio it's got to have a stable of lawyers just hanging around waiting to sue somebody. That's what I think. Somebody probably said it already, but I don't think I'm too far off the mark.

I for one am going to boycott Fox films. I really think that we should get this moving and let fox know. Day the Earth Stood Still, Max Paynne...

KWsupers Terminator is the WB (it is released on a fox channel).

Fox you blew it. Put your efforts into fixing the films coming out and leave the Watchmen alone.

I read an article recently that it probably wouldn't be delayed and that Fox just wanted to get a little money out of the deal. Which I'm sure WB will pay.

redhairs99 • Sep 01, 2008, 11:14am •
Yeah, my guess is that WB shells out a bunch of money to Fox so Watchmen gets released on schedule. Then WB will just add the money they paid to Fox to Watchmen's budget (should add a good $100 million). Then when the film fails to make a large enough profit based on this "adjusted" budget, WB will consider Watchmen a failure and order a reboot...

...Wait was I talking about Watchmen or some other superhero film that had it's budget artificially inflated?
