Tribune Pilot Production Slate

On Tuesday, Tribune Entertainment big shot Dick Astin formally announced plans for five pilots for potential TV series. These developing projects are a part of Tribune's strategy to expand out of just programming for themselves (through the WGN superstation) and traditional syndication, and into creating programming for other cable and broadcast networks.

Here are the details of the company's new hour-long pilots:

SPQR
It looks like the success of DreamWorks GLADIATOR still reverberates through Hollywood with word that this pilot and potential series will in a world in which an elite guard must protect the Emperor of Rome from forces threatening the Emperor's reign. Russ Kagan and Lorenzo Minomi are on board to produce.

MECHWARRIORS
A regular series concept based on Microsoft's BATTLETECH game. Paul Bryant and Michael Wahl of Foundation Imaging are producing.

PENDRAGON
The legend of Camelot is explored in this potential series, including, of course, the characters of King Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere, Merlin, and whoever else was a part of the original mythic canon. Jonathan Hale is on board the project as head writer, with Lawrence Bender and Kevin Brown producing.

THE ULTIMATE ADVENTURE COMPANY
This program is inspired by real-life explorer/adventurer Barry Clifford. Gale Anne Hurd and writer Steven De Souza are attached.

TRADE WINDS
A high seas adventure show, though no details are given regarding its time frame. Greg Bonnan (BAYWATCH) is behind this one.
