The Review!
More Peace and Love has arrived in the form of Trigun 5, probably the best looking of the discs to be released yet.

Both audio tracks sound pretty good with only a few areas of real directionality. Dialogue throughout was very easy to hear and we didn't notice any dropouts or distortion.

Trigun 5 definitely falls under the category of "most improved video" from earlier releases. The rainbows, which at times can be quite distracting to me, are practically gone, leaving a great looking image. The animation itself doesn't really bring out a startling image, but things look great. Colors are spot on with no visible bleeding and the couple of areas with really fluid animation look fabulous.

Yet another truly shiny looking cover with Vash jumping down a hillside. Those who have the chromium cover are indeed in for a treat with a great image. The back cover gives a very brief summary of the show as well as several animation shots. Episode names and numbers are also included, though a bit obscured. The insert is the same as the front cover but with the episode and chapter listings added.

Sweet. Very sweet. Nightjar has served up some more great looking menus that fit the feel of the show quite well. The menus are also very smooth during the transitions and access times are very good. Great looking stuff here and definitely something that will be remembered by fans of the show.

The extras this time around are the non-credit opening and ending sequence, which to some extent is a bit of a surprise considering the minor controversy surrounding the opening sequence. The non-credit one here is indeed the same as the one seen on every episode so far, which is from the first episode and not the slightly changing one that every episode should have as seen in the original Japanese release. But still, it's great to finally get those credits out of the way and be able to focus better on the animation, especially in the ending sequence.

This batch of episodes brings us firmly past the halfway mark and starts moving things into the actual storyline. But not until they squeeze one more filler episode out of it, giving Millie and Meryl a chance to have a story of their own.

While traveling through the world, the gang comes across a town where bad things start happening, and Vash ends up inadvertantly covering an elderly couple whose being threatened for their land deed. All three end up heading out to the couples homestead to see what the deal is, and finds a really lush area, presumably on top of an old geofront. As would have it, some bad guy wants the area for himself, and is manipulating events to get it.

This episode was fairly decent if forgettable. Vash gets minimal screen time as the show focuses more on the two girls and gives them a chance to try and shine a bit. Vash gets exiled early on, but manages to get in a few good lines.

The next two episodes though are really bringing things up to speed. At a completely different desert town, your usual group of bad boys enters the saloon and causes trouble. Nothing too surprising here. Where things get very interesting is that Legato is there having his lunch at the same time. The ensuing fight sequence is pretty fun to watch as well as getting to know Legato and his mindset some more.

Legato has also called the Gung Ho Guns team together, and we end up meeting a lot of them. Some are pretty decent looking, a couple kind of goofy. I'm really interested to see what the jazz man can do. Vash himself ends up in the same town and stumbles upon the carnage left by Legato, and ends up running across him while searching through the town. Vash's personality once again does a 180 degree turn to the serious which combined with the change in the two ladies and their relationship with the Insurance company, brings things to a different and more interesting level.

Vash does keep his sense of humor as he starts mixing it up with the Gung Ho Guns though. The animation for the most part is on the same level it has been though with a few bits of some really nice fluid animation. Some of the Gung Ho Guns look a bit goofy, but some look interesting. It looks like we'll end up with a few episodes of gunfights again before we start getting to the real meat of things, but the gunfights are always good.

Oh, and yes, Wolfwood pokes his head into things again. His appearance alone always makes an episode better!
