It seems that Walt Disney is planning a new "Tron" animated series to coincide their upcoming theatrical release of Tron Legacy. HR reports the Disney Channel the series to follow the release of the film (December 17, 2010).

The news was part of Disney's upfront presentation Tuesday evening to media buyers and clients, which included a preview of the "Tron" series. Geared towards kids age 6-14, the plan is to precede "Tron" with another project, a 10-part "Tron" micro-series premiering in fall 2011 on Disney XD.

Gary Marsh, entertainment president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, also offered a glimpse of "Legacy," which is at such an early juncture in the development process that only stills were available.

"Tron is another example of how we can take advantage of the intellectual property that the studio unit pays tens, if not hundreds, of millions to develop and market," said Marsh.

The "Tron" projects represent a CGI-refresh of Disney's 1982 theatrical, with "Legacy" expected to be released in December.

Not sure if I like the 6-14 target audience.

With as much success as more "adult" series (Clone Wars, etc.) are having, I wouldn't have minded seeing one geared towards an older crowd.

But if they can keep on par with some of the recent Marvel and DC cartoons, then perhaps it won't be too bad.

I've been enjoying the Iron Man Adventures and I think that is aimed at the 6-14 age group so Tron should be OK. It's not like it is aimed at 2-4 year olds like Yo Gabba Gabba.

Well hopefully they're smart and gear it towards younger kids, but like disney has done with many movies since the late eighties also make it for adults as well.

A bad example is the updated Transformers toon,  I don't get it really.  Kids are smarter than we were in the 80's, they should aim a little higher and they will watch also.  I bet they are all watching South park and Simpsons.

Clone Wars is aimed at adults?!

I hope Disney decides to go with the animation style of Clone Wars or Iron Man Adventures and not so much the Super Hero Squard. But I'll sit thru 10 eps of a kiddie show.

why cant they do it in CGI? this is Tron we are talking about. not star "gimpy" wars.

Tron will rule!
