I love this movie. Good old BOB.

Walt Disney is planning on bringing back another one of their 1970s properties and it seems they're hiring the men behind Tron: Legacy to lead it. HR's Heat Vision blog reports the studio has tasked the "Legacy" team--director Joseph Kosinski, screenwriter Travis Beacham and producer Sean Bailey--to reinvent their 1979 sci-fi film, The Black Hole.
Plot Concept: The original followed a group of space explorers aboard the USS Palomino who come across a lost ship, the USS Cygnus, hovering outside a black hole. Inside the Cygnus, the explorers meet a scientist, commanding an army of faceless robots, who explains his crew deserted him as he planned to go through the black hole. The explorers soon discover that the robots are the remnants of the former crew and that the scientist has no intention of letting them leave.
The details of the update are being kept secret, though the take does involve grounding the story in the science of a black hole, much more so than in the original. Maximilian also would return.
Sound off below.
I loved the Black Hole as a kid. I remember watching it like it was real, lol. Please oh Please dont ruin a classic!
If Disney couldn't get a new 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, one can hope that they will not be able to laucnh of new Black Hole. For my money, literarally, I hope this is what happens. When will Disney and the rest of the Hollwood studios stop re-packaging, re-booting, and re-making its past achievements; and start making new, original entertainment?
Black hole is a must see once a year for me. And I love the soundtrack. Ending was depressing and confusing really. I really hope good things for this one. Sequel would be great but no prob if it's a remake either but they better have great music!!!!!
Yet ANOTHER classic being shredded for the sake of a remake! I hope it falls apart before it ever gets released! Shame on you Disney!
Black Hole could use updated FX. For that reason I see this working. Story is important. As to 20,000 Leagues I think it has more red tape than Black Hole would. How many parties hold sway over Leagues vs. Black Hole?
Haven't seen the original, so I have no issues with a remake. Could be interesting.
As I recall Black Hole was done in response to Star Wars. SW , thought Disney execs, was a movie they should have done with their history of special effects innovation and family-oriented adventure, but like almost every other studio they assumed their was no market for this type of fantasy adventure and they had almost completely closed down their FX department. They took a story idea called Space Probe based on paintings from artist Robert McCall and it eventually morphed into Black Hole. The movie is essentially a remake of 20,00 Leagues but in space with cute robots.
It is a fun kid-oriented film, and you can tell by its look they had alot of catching up to ILM to do. Roddy McDowall as Vincent made that movie for me. I'd rather they just make a new SF movie but it's their property so, be my guest at a remake.
I wonder if the new Maximillian will meat grind his way thru Norman Bates again.
