Since the release of the cover artwork for TROUBLE #1, comic book message forums and online chat rooms have been buzzing about what the first announced comic from Marvel's new Epic imprint could be about. With a photo cover showing two young women in bikinis looking over their sunglasses, what the heck could the writer of the action-packed THE ULTIMATES have up his sleeve?
How about the return of romance comics?
At a press conference held earlier today Marvel CEO Bill Jemas was hesitant to reveal any new information about TROUBLE but he did confirm that it was indeed a romance comic. Back in the 50s and 60s, the romance genre of comic books were at their heyday and were among some of the industry's most popular books. By the time comics entered the 1970s, the romance genre had died and superheroes had won the battle.
Marvel reps were hesitant to explain the book's concept further than that but Joe Quesada, Marvel's Editor-in-Chief, offered that TROUBLE would appeal "to anyone who enjoys comics and great stories."
The 5-issue series is set to debut in early July and will feature photograph covers by French fashion photographer Philippe Biabolos. The storyline will be set in the modern day.
