TV on DVD

So, you’ve finished watching that new HD-DVD edition of Heroes: Season One and now you need something else to quench your thirst for all of your favorite series still not back from the summer hiatus, or maybe you’re looking to catch up with a series you haven’t watched before so you can add it to your DVR this fall. Easily done, because some of our favorite shows are hitting DVD over the next few weeks.
Recently I reviewed Supernatural: Season One here on Mania and I highly enjoyed it. On Tuesday, season two hits DVD so I’ll be picking that up so I’ll be ready for the season three fall premiere. Also coming to DVD Tuesday is Charmed: The Final Season. Charmed isn’t a show I watched, but I have some friends that are just rabid about the series. Also hitting shelves on Tuesday is Bones: The Complete Second Season. Again, here’s another series I don’t watch but I know several of you guys really dig it. I think the only reason I didn’t hook into it was because it conflicted with something I already watched when it first started. If you’re on the nostalgia tip, you’ll want to pick up Fraggle Rock The Complete Third Season. If you’re into the classic animated series (and who isn’t) then the latest in the Tom and Jerry collections should be on your list, Tom and Jerry The Spotlight Collection Volume 3. Finally, The Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes Volume 2 (1994) hits DVD on Tuesday as well. I am really enjoying some of the current FF comic books so I may have to check this out. I know it won’t be as good as the comics but it can’t be as bad as the current FF animated series currently running on Cartoon Network.
Of course Eureka is in my list of “must see TV” this week but the big one for me has to be the season finale of The 4400. This season has been really strong, better than last season for the most part, so as sad as I am to see the season end, I can’t wait to see how it ends. I’m also giving Torchwood a shot. I couldn’t ever get into Doctor Who because I’m kind of over the whole time travel thing, plus when I’m watching sci-fi, I tend to prefer to see it in the future and the good Doctor made way too many trips into the past for me.

This is the future: New York is one big 60-story traffic jam, stewardesses dress in belly-baring Gaultier, shape-shifting Mangalors (imagine rubbery bulldogs with automatic weapons) prowl the streets, the elite vacation on the interstellar ocean liner Fhloston Paradise and a planet-sized ball o' badness is hurtling toward the Earth at unimaginable speed. The only one who can stop it is fetching waif Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), whose "I dreamed I went walking in my Maidenform bra of the future" scene should insure her a place in the hearts of 14-year-old boys of all ages. Brash, often very beautiful, and art-directed within an inch of its life, this juvenile fantasy-adventure (writer-director Luc Besson conceived the story as a teen) pits Leeloo and crack starfighter turned taxi driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) against evil capitalist Zorg (Gary Oldman) and his running Mangalors. The fate of the Earth hangs on a quartet of ancient stones, which must be aligned in an ancient Egyptian temple..
