District 9 is probably the best science fiction film in the last 20 years, IMHO.  The CG is some of the best ever put to screen, the script was solid as was the acting.  Really hoping Neill Blomkamp knocks it out of hte park with Elysium.

And Seth MacFarlene is just fine.  Family Guy is still pretty darn funny and Ted was hilarious.

Whenever I list LOTR as one of my favorite movies, etc., I always combine the three films into one big film, so that's how I look at it.

I love District 9, and also hope that Blomkamp saves the summer from mediocre to bad films; it was my most anticipated movie of the summer from the start, but we'll see...  I also feel that it's one of the best Science Fiction films of the past few years, but I'd also place Children of Men in that list, and even higher...so having Elysium and Gravity come out this year is exciting (despite Clooney and Bullock being in Gravity).

In my opinion Television is now much better than the movies.  It only makes sense that one can tell a more compelling story and develope characters better over the span of several 1 hour episodes than you can in a 2-3 hour movie.

The movies have countered with big budget mind numbing special effects / gimmicks, that can't be equalled on an HDTV, but all  the on screen IMAX 3-D pyrotechnics in the world can't beat a good story.

Like Ripum853 I always think of the 3 LOTR movies as one big movie...likewise I think of the 3 Nolan Batman flicks as a single project.

I'm also a big fan of District 9...I hope Elysium is as thought provoking...this summers big budget popcorn flicks like MOS, Iron Man 2 or Star Trek:  Into the Darkness have been silly fun, but it would be nice to have something you could really wrap your head around.
