Producers are already working on a TV series based on Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover book series. They are still in early development and their isn't a network affiliated with it but this is something I would love. I enjoyed reading those books as a kid and it would make a great series.

Survivors of a colony ship crash land on a frosty planet and over the centuries develop a medievel feudal system based around the use of psychically enhancing matrix crystals. There were different families of users who struggled for power similar to GoT. The books I like best were the ones that occurred when Earth eventually re-discovered the planet and the conflict between hi-tech Earthers and the sword wielding, crystal using inhabitants.

monkey, there is a blast from the past.  Marion Zimmer Bradley...the woman who hated role playing games and any form of medium that wasn't a novel and suported fan fiction till it bit her in the arse and a glaring example of why there shouldn't be fan fiction.  There is a cautionary tale in there about how she handled her career.  Oh, the money she could have made in her lifetime.

I gave those novels a try in the 90's and I gave up on them because they are very dated and I would think so even more so today.  There is a good idea in her novels but man, it's a jumbled mess of an order and who was actually writing those stories.  I agree the premise you wrote is a good idea for a story so I wouldn't mind seeing it made into a TV series.

So you'll list Touch, but you still won't include Awake.  Got it.

I have seen that Warner Bros. have aquired the rights to Tad Williams' Otherland series a couple months ago.   We'll see if it ever gets through development.  Still while I liked Otherland, I would rather thay picked up Williams' Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy (also where my username comes from).  George R.R. Martin has stated there would be no ASoIaF if not for Williams' Memory Sorrow and Thorn.

I had never heard of GOT before the HBO series and even seeing the previews for season one, I just thought, great, another Tudors, Camelot, Merlin, blah blah blah... For some reason I finally got around to watching it, about half way through the first season, and I was completely hooked. Rob, this series IS brilliant and in my opinion the most well produced series that I have ever seen... every episode is like watching an actual movie production.

I think it's very unfair for you to use your position to bash a genre that you may not particularly enjoy, because there is no denying that this is a fantastic series. That is not just my opinion, that is a fact, otherwise, as you mentioned, there would be no mad dash by other studios to find the next GOT.

Rob, Rob, Rob, how could you like the star trek reboot wasn't star trek just another generic action movie. much your taste has fallen....

Lets be honest, has HBO really made anything bad. They know how to do tv right. They understand its not 1980 anymore. I think GoT have to give a bit of credit to rome. its a shame the movie never materialised.

If we are going to throw books into the ring for HBO to make. I am going to pick  David Gemmell. I know when he was alived he turned down every offer because of the way licesning works.  While I had a huge collection of fantasy books. His books are the most easy to suggest to new readers interested/curious in the genre.

Nice Haibane Renmei pic zalder.
