Icons of retro television continue to pour onto the sets of the NBC hit Heroes. Last season, Nichele Nichols from Star Trek: The Original Series appeared on Heroes in a small role along with George Takei, and Joanna Cassidy (Blade Runner). and this year William Katt - best known as the “hero” from the 80’s TV series The Greatest American Hero - is coming to the series. He won’t dawning the cape and tights and crash landing into big bushes this time around though. He’s playing a seedy reporter hot on the trail of Nikki, who apparently doesn’t die from the explosion that ended season two. The fact that Nikki survives could be considered a spoiler but realistically did anyone think she was dead? Newsarama is featuring an interview with Katt where he says:

“I just filmed it last week. I play a really, really wonderful, seedy, smarmy-mouthed reporter that goes after Ali Larter. It was a lot of fun.”

Katt goes on to say that Heroes is more “Hitchcockian” than his early series and it offers a much darker look at the world of super heroes much like modern comic books. Finally, the comments that there are a lot of twists yet to come, as if we weren’t expecting that. It appears that his character may only be in a single episode of Heroes. Katt is staying busy though, now owning his own comic book company and sitting in the middle of buzz about a theatrical version of The Greatest American Hero.

This is a fairly bleak week for interesting television, especially with Battlestar Galactica over. This third episode of Fear Itself is supposed to be the best of the first three made so it’ll be interesting to see if it lives up to the “hype” around it. At least the AFI Top 10 special features Sci-fi and fantasy films in the list.

spiderhero 6/16/2008 7:10:12 AM
I certainly hoped she was dead. Oh well...

I thought there was a chance she was dead, but didn't really expect it. This is a minor, minor spoiler at best. I wish "they" would get their asses in gear on the big screen treatment of GAH. It could be so good! (Note, I said, "could")

No way was I convinced she was dead. She's too popular with male viewers! Why would you smash your most beautiful flower in the garden?

Two things: BSG isn't over, it's on its season break. New episodes will probably start back up again in August. Hence the 'Coming Soon' slapped over the previews at the end of last weeks episode. Second, "A Sound of Thunder" is the movie based on the Ray Bradbury story about time travel and how the smallest changes in the past can affect the future. It wasn't a very well done movie, but the story is a classic. It is NOT about 'huge tornadoes rip NYC apart after a giant storm moves in over the city'. Mania, seriously, if you guys need someone to cut and paste a synopsis of each genre related show for the week correctly, call me. I can get it done in about 15 minutes.
