While answering a question to a reader, TV Guide's Michael Ausiello has mentioned who won't be returning to "regular" duties for the recently confirmed season 8 of "Smallville". Both actors have told producers and the details are being worked out for small cameos throughout the season.

Here's the latest from Ausiello at TV Guide;

Question: Now that we know that Smallville's coming back next season, when will we find out which cast members will be returning? — Kirsten

Ausiello:
You'll find out right this second (Warning: This spoiler will dramatically and suddenly accelerate, climb, stop and dive. It is not recommended for Smallville fans who are expectant mothers or those with a history of neck or back conditions or heart trouble) OK, here we go: Nearly everyone is expected to return for Season 8 except — wait for it, wait for it — Michael Rosenbaum and Kristen Kreuk. I'll give you a second to catch your breath. [
Beat] Sources close to the show tell me that both actors have informed producers that they don't intend to return as series regulars next season. However, they are open to doing limited engagements, and those details are being worked out as we speak. Thanks for riding! Actually, you may wanna stay strapped in for this next one...

Kristen is getting ready to topline the upcoming adaptation of Street Fighter. While Michael has some alternative projects on the horizon, we know he has been seen taking business meetings with Platinum Dune's Michael Bay so something may be coming his direction as well.

Might be for the best.

Seeing these characters in a more distant recuring role will help bringing the end of the series into what we know more.

You can bet Lex Luthor will play a big role in the finally of this series.

I had read last season that Rosenbaum wasn't planning on coming back if they did a season 8. I think they should have just extended season 7 after the strike and ended it this season.

I know the creators said before that this wouldn't happen, but I think the last episode should end with Clark putting on the cape & tights and flying off to Metropolis.

As long as fashion plate Superboy is in it the show will still swallow. Black Canary working for Lex Luthor, are they making her lesbo and GA will turn her?

What will happen to Lana Lang? Is Clark gonna shoot his load causing her spleen to rupture and her back to break so she spends the season in traction like a Elliot Gould in Oceans 13?

Elliot Gould in bed in Oceans 13 showed better acting skills then anyone else in the entire run of STIFFVILLE.

Come on Faces of Death:The Smallville movie.

I think Luthor Sr. is going to bite it

Now the spotlight will be on just Luke Perry, i mean Tom Welling.

Just end the damn show!!! 7 should've been enough.

Agreed. I'm a huge fan of the show, but I would have absolutely no problem with the 7th season being the last. We've had some laughs, killed Bizarro, made Cloe a "meteor freak", so why not end the series on a higher note before they're resorted into bringing in Dr. Fate to extract "Alexander" once Rosenbaum leaves?

Smallville 90210 used to be a good watch. Reigning the DC lineup into goofy high school clowns that get powers from meteors is pretty retarded. Smallville is the new Swan's Crossing. (Does anyone remember that show? If you do, I'd say shoot me, but if you remember it too, we'll have to shoot each other.)

I used to love the show too. I still watch it because my wife still digs it. When I saw Clark walking away from one of LL's labs in the slowmotion victory formation with GA,AM,Cyborg, and the flash last season, thats when I thought they jumped the shark.

ah who cares... i have always hated Kreuk from the get go... they should retool the entire show and take the spotlight away from Tom Welling and make it (god forbid) the formation of the Justice Society (or JLA for newbies) the primary problem with that is that the JLA didnt start in Smallville, in fact... a whole lot of shit never went down in Smallville... this isnt "Superman" this is a bastardization of the DC universe... My god does every DC Character Origin revolve around or take place in Smallville? Of course not... but somehow they all come crawling into the town for cameos... i woulda thought that Metropolis would be the big hotspot for DC Character cameos... not some backwater podunk town in the middle of corn country.

God, I do remember Swans Crossing,,,,that due from Airborne was in it. I love that movie Airborne with Seth Green and Shane McDermont......I just got into Smallville because they were on sale at Best Buy for $15, So I bought all 6 seasons that were out,,,,,,it is a fun show and a really cool take on Superman, but even after only watching 4 seasons so far, I can tell it is slowly jumping the shark. On a side note, I am really upset they canceled Las Vegas, that was one of the most fun shows on TV.
