Two new sneak peek featurettes for WB's Speed Racer have appeared online. One is an domestic version over at Apple, which you can see here. The other is an international version, which you can check out here. The upcoming adaptation of the 60s anime stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, Hiroyuki Sanada and Richard Roundtree. The Wachowski brothers penned the screenplay and directed.

Plot Summary: Born to race cars, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Speed Racer will hit IMAX and standard theaters May 9, 2008.

I watched the third international trailer and it is sweet! I think this movie is going to rock just about as much as any other movie coming out in the next 3 to 4 months...

My son can't wait to see this. . . . Man I hate this new site. I'm not sure I can take much more change.
Who's idea was this? It looks ok, but is worse to use.
I'm pissed.
Hell all our sentences run together, and we can't edit, and the list isn't to the right like it was before, and you have to scroll three hundred feet to the bottom. Why oh why did we have to change?
I've been a loyal cinescape fan for many years, and when others complained when Mania took over I said we'd get used to it, and it improved for a while, but now this is just backwards. Is there no way to go back. Plus I get errors when I enter this, every time.

Almost...I not all that happy with it also but not all that disappointed with the new look so what can you do, right? Let's just hope that it's still being developed into something better as time goes by...I do hope they allow us to edit our comments because god knows that I make a lot of mistakes and only realize those mistakes after I have added my comment, I guess I will have to proof read first and then add, ooh well...

My son wants to see this too. But he has no clue who speed racer is. And when i tell him this cartoon was on when I was a kid - check that it came out 4 years before i was born - he thinks I am crazy.

As far as the site I am not a fan of it - there were certain elements of the old sitethat I miss but I guess over time i will adjust. Or I will find a new site to make my regular stop (this one is late on some movie news a bit often)

From the most recent previews I see more and more that this is truly suppose to be more a cartoon than real. In that sense I say why not! It's pretty original looking, a fresh take for sure. Guess we'll have to wait and see for the ture results!

I've seen a trailer for Speed Racer on tv recently and it looks interesting. It certainly has a very bright, colorful look that should intitially draw in an audience but the real test like most big budget,Hollywood films will be if the film is good itself. If it is then more people will go see it after the intitial big-time opening this film will likely have. The Wachowski brothers have a good track record with the Matrix films so hopefully that will bold well for the film. This is my first comment on Mania so I thought I would mention it and to all others who are like myself new here, welcome!!!
