Two New TV Spots for CLOVERFIELD Online

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor
Date: Thursday, January 10, 2008
Source: Paramount

With the film hitting theaters in just a week, the marketing aspect for Cloverfield is now wrapping up and what a marketing machine it has been. Paramount has now released two new (and possibly last) spots for the monster movie online, which I'll place down below. The film stars Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, Odette Yustman, Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas and T.J. Miller. Matt Reeves directed the project, based on a screenplay by Drew Goddard.

To see the new spot called "Witness", click here.

To see the new spot called "Incredible", click here.

Plot Summary: Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.

Cloverfield hits theaters January 18, 2008.

Looks like the monster hid well enough til screening time. That's good. Reminds me of Godzilla hype back when.

I am pumped for this one as well, I even like the whole shakey cam idea, should make it feel really intense...
SPOLER WARNING:
The Monster rampaging through New York city, destroying everything in it's path with no regard for human life is actually a drunken Britney Spears... that horrible roar you keep hearing in the trailer is her releasing gas after a round of mojitos...

guildjplen is that a fact about the Star Trek preview? Guessed I missed the announcement, but that'll be sweet if true.

I want this to be good... but I doubt it. Inexperienced writer, director, and actors, no advanced press screenings (guess they're scared of the reviews) and the few effects that have been shown look bad.

One little detail Dazzler, the newer Godzilla movie blew dead donkey dong. This will too. I smell a turd floating in the toilet. Someone please flush it soon.

I agree with Brendan on this one. Just because you slap J.J. Abrham's name on it doesn't make it a winner. The trailer's are simply annoying with the two-dimenionall trendy-hipster characters. Who is supposed to care for these people? The shakey is a nice novelty, but that gimmick has been done before. No advance screenings for the movie only makes me feel this is more of an amateurish "Blair-Zilla" project than an actual movie. I'll see it just like I saw that Godzilla turd they try to pass off way back when as entertainment.

Brendan, I seem to recall another movie that had inexperienced actors.......STAR WARS, and that turned out OK. I'm going into this expecting a monster movie, nothing more. Loud noises, explosions and probably bad acting. If I get anything more out of it, great. I miss those days when I was a kid and I could go to the theatre and watch, as I would come to realize as an adult, really bad Godzilla movies of the early 70's. Not as bad as the Tri-Star Godzilla though, but I miss those days. I also am very curious to see what this monster looks like. The studio did a great job of keeping this a secret.

Goirish, just to play Devil's Advocate or whatever--Stars Wars had inexperienced actors but seasoned writing and directing. Didn't Lucas go into SW right after he did American Graffitii? The key difference being that the actors working together along with the story made for a compelling entertaining experience. The ads for Cloverfield doesn't seem to convey any of that, if anything the dynamic seems to emphasize the lack of sincerity with the young actors. Whether its due to lack of experience or just bad directing--who knows. The best thing about the old Zilla movies was the cheese value and seeing Godzilla tear some model buildings down. I remember back when they even had the old King Kong vs. Godzilla...man that was terrible, but alot of fun.

Inexperienced actors in STAR WARS?
Carrie Fisher did "Shampoo" with Warren Beatty. Harrison Ford had done "American Graffiti" and "The Conversation" as well as numerous television appearances... and I won't even go on about Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing.

I'm just saying that, like the 1998 Godzilla, there may not be much behind the hype.
