Two New TV Spots for RACER

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Tuesday, April 08, 2008

Two new TV spots for the upcoming adaptation of the classic anime Speed Racer have popped up online courtesy of Warner Bros. The film stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Matthew Fox. Andy and Larry Wachowski directed it, based on their own screenplay.

Plot Summary: Born to race cars, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Speed Racer will hit theaters May 9, 2008.

metalwater, once again I agree. I was hoping the Wachowskis would turn in something better than what I'm seeing. I'm just not feeling it. I may still check it out if word of mouth is decent, otherwise I may opt for seconds or thirds of Ironman.

I don't know what you guys are seeing but based on the trailers I'm seeing I'm thinking this looks good. End result my prove me wrong, this is a tricky property to bring to the big screen, but so far I'm looking forward to it.
Is it just all the CGI that's turning y'all off?

joeyB - yeah... I've said this before, but it honestly looks like the next installment of Spy Kids.

The cartoon was nothing like this acid trip, in fact the coloring of the cartoon was quite dull.

I don't mind though, I will definitely be taking my kids to see this... the cartoon was for kids and this movie is definitely for kids.

Try watching it high,,,,it really makes it look cool....I didn't want to see this at first, but then I smoked a fatty, and bam, it looked awesome. It may take some shrooms to see it in the theatre.

Well I for one think it looks great even if it is directed at kids, plus the visuals are eye candy...

This movie is gonna kick all forms of ass. I always wanted a video game or toy that does all the gadgets right for the Mach 5. I hope this is the year.
