It seems that Arnold Schwarzenegger may make his return to the realm of genre entertainment before any Governator film hits 3D theaters in 2013. Despite the recently-announced project hitting multiple media platforms over the next two years, Variety reports that Arnold is also eyeing a return to cinema by way of Kim Jee-woon's The Last Stand or Antoine Fuqua's The Tomb.
"Last Stand," to be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and directed by Jee-woon Kim ("I Saw the Devil") from a script by Andrew Knauer and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, revolves around a border-town sheriff who battles a Mexican cartel boss. Liam Neeson had considered starring, but he's moved on, opening the door for Schwarzenegger, who's received an offer and is in early discussions to topline.
"The Tomb," to be directed by Antoine Fuqua, is about a structural security expert who's framed for a crime and put in a high-security prison that he designed. Miles Chapman and Jason Keller penned the thriller.
Insiders say Schwarzenegger has had several meetings over the past couple weeks with Fuqua and Summit execs, and both sides have shown mutual interest in working together. With "Last Stand," Schwarzenegger has yet to meet with Kim.
