It seems that the CIA Cold War film The Good Shepherd may be turning into a trilogy by director Robert De Niro. The actor-director accepted a life time achievement award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this weekend and told Variety that there may be two more installments based around the Edward Wilson (Damon) character.

The second film would cover Wilson during the heart of the Cold War, the years 1961-1989. The third installment would take Wilson from 1989 to present day. De Niro said being in central Europe recently gave him the opportunity to ponder ideas around the 2006 film, which starred Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, William Hurt, John Turturro, Joe Pesci, Alec Baldwin, Billy Crudup, Michael Gambon and Gabriel Macht.

He also has two more films planned with Martin Scorsese and while details are sketchy, the first one is planned for 2009.

I didn`t really enjoy the first one. It wasn't a bad movie, so much as it was kind of boring at certain points and seemed to just go on for quite awhile. I don`t know if I would sit through 2 more.

I fell asleep through the first one. Good times.

I really enjoyed the first one. It is not really the type of film that has a wide appeal to fans of the action/sci fi genera. No flashy special effects, car chases, or things a that nature. This is definetly a movie that appealed to the over 30 crowd, well written and slow paced where the viewer has to actually think about what they were seeing and follow the movie to pick up many of the subtle hints about global events shaped by the CIA.

First one looked interesting, but didn't it tank?

Btw, that Hellboy video on the main page is getting real f-ing annoying. I am viewing this page at work, where we're not supposed to be watching video. Since we no longer have the list of headlines on the side of the page like we did on the old page design, I have to keep backing up to the main page. Then I have to keep scrolling down, waiting for the video to load, then stopping it. It's pissing me off... if anyone cares.

I thought the movie was ok but I would never have guessed that it drew enough attention or money for sequels. It only made about 60 domestic and 40 overseas. I still would check out any sequel.

I'd probably see it on DVD, but not in theaters. The first one was ok.

Exactly, I would rent it, bu not want to see it on the big screen. It was a interesting flick and it delved into the origins of the CIA which I really liked, but still some of it just went on.

I dug it. It wasn't really supposed to be a action packed movie. You just sort of learn how the CIA was born. More lessa spy/thriller kinda thing. I dug it. Id like to see them take it into another 2 movies with Damons character. Guess we will have to see.
