Tyler Mane Looking For THOR

Ever since director Matthew Vaughn has been officially attached to the upcoming adaptation of THOR, rumors have been spreading like a wildfire on which actor take up the anvil in the title role. We know one actor is seriously being looked at by the studio, Kevin McKidd (from Hbo's Rome.), which was confirmed two weeks ago by Robert over at Iesb.net. Another leading contender in a lot of the circles is former wrestler turned actor, Tyler Mane(Sabertooth from X-Men, Michael Myers from Zombie's upcoming Halloween), who is all but ready for the role should the fan made rumors be true. He's definitely interested in the job given what he has said to Mtv recently...

Here's what Mane told MTV:

“I would love to take a look at that,” Mane responded this week when we asked the 6’8” former professional wrestler about rumors he’s being considered to play the Norse god. “That would be fantastic.”

The connections would seem to be in place already for Mane, who made his movie debut as Sabretooth in the 2000 blockbuster “X-Men,” another Marvel Comics property based on a long-time title. “Oh, I’m most definitely [familiar with the character of Thor], yeah.”

“I would love to,” Mane said of the possibility. “You never know [whether Thor will make it as a movie]. You have all those genres of the comic-book characters coming to life, from the Sabretooth character I did in ‘X-Men’ to all the ones that they did. It could be [the right time for Thor]; it depends on how it’s done, and who writes the script.”

“[Have they come to me] about ‘Thor’?” Mane repeated, shrugging his sizeable shoulders. “I have not heard anything yet, so we’ll see. Hopefully, somebody’s out there writing it for me like Rob [Zombie] wrote [a role in ‘Halloween’] for me.”

Directed by Vaughn (”Stardust”) and written by Mark Protosevich (the upcoming Will Smith flick “I Am Legend”), the adaptation of the 45-year-old comic is hoping to begin filming this winter. In the meantime, Mane joked that he might try and persuade Vaughn and the Marvel honchos he’d be perfect for the role by walking around with a giant hammer during the next several months. “Yeah,” he laughed. “I could give some people some ideas!”

Big thanks to veteran Mania Scooper, Daforce, for passing this bit along...

None of these men look right for the Role. If Vladimir Kulich was twenty years younger he'd be the perfect THOR. This is the frame of mind for which they should be scouting.
At the top of my head I would think that if Mark Lutz (Groo - Buffy The Vampire) gained a few pounds and worked out he'd be good for the role. Still someone like Kulich would be perfect.

What about Ralf Moeller, the guy from Gladitor and Beerfest, he has the German accent but I think with a long blonde wig he could pull it off.

I think People want to see a younger person than Ralf Moeller. If he was maybe Twenty years younger too hed be okay.

I don't know if Taylor would be good for this role...maybe a new or unknown for this role, as to not take away from the character, and because of the nature of the this hero, it would seem plausible to have the focus on that rather than the actor...

It worked for Spiderman and it definitely worked for Supes....

I like Tyler Mane but I just don't think he fits the role very well. I picture Thor speaking with bit of a British lilt and I don't know if he could pull that off believably.

Ha, former wrestlers are great actors.
(Hope you picked up on the sarcasm)
Fortunately he had very little to say in XMen, really hope they dont cast him once again as Sabretooth in Wolverine - in that case the movie has potential

Ralf Moeller? Lol.

And the only reason I'm laughing at this is because I can't think of ANYONE who fits this role.

I don't know what the script is about or if there is a Donald Blake- which then they may have to go the Hulk route or get 2 actors.
I have never heard Tyler Mane say anything and Thor's voice is important. If Josh Holloway could get a little bigger(muscle) and worked on some type of lilt and norse asgardian dialect(where he would get a coach for that i have no idea)- he could do it.
Moeller can't act- not well enough to carry this film. Triple H from WWE would be a better choice than Moeller. They may have to pull a Singer and go find an unknown...then cast a really good Odin and Loki.

I see Anthony Hopkins playing Odin

I'd be content with Tyler Mane as Thor.

I'd see that film if the trailer looked decent.

There might be better actors, but I don't think Thor is going to be THAT dramatic a role to play.
