Just a few days after causing a virtual maelstrom of JLA interest by releasing details of the script, Patrick has provided a possible candidate choice for the Green Lantern in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA production. According to a source, Tyrese Gibson is in the running to play the role of John Stewart aka GL. Obviously, this doesn't mean he has the part, readers. It only implies that he is one among a list of candidates for the role. Warner Bros has already said they will not confirm any casting choices for individual characters until they have the full ensemble cast of superheros attached to the project. Until then, we're going to continue operating in "Rumor Control" territory.

Just the mention of Gibson being considered puts the "possible" well known actors attached to this project up to three. Earlier this week, Variety published that Jessica Biel has been in negotiations for the Wonder Woman role while it's been known for sometime that Ryan Reynolds is a favorite for The Flash.

Note: This isn't the first time he's been in consideration of a comic based character. At one time, he was in consideration of John Singleton's THE BLACK PANTHER and the actor is still believed attached to the LUKE CAGE project which is still set for a 2009 release.

He's a good actor...but I really hate him in interviews. He's just too much of a brown noser...who never seems to have any interesting to say.

BTW...Entertainment Weekly is now revealing a different plot for the JLA film.

The story is about villainous businessman Maxwell Lord and involves an army of OMAC cyborgs that can take over humans and turn them into killing machines. According to EW...there are epic battles between Superman and Batman...as well as Wonder Woman and Superman. If successful, Warner is hoping to spin off the characters into their own individual franchise movies series.

Oh BTW...the story claims that Aquaman is in the film, in addition to Martian Manhunter, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the black Green Lantern, and The Flash.

They say that the Wonder woman movies seems to be on hold and that Jessica Biel is not guaranteed the part even if she wins the WW role in the JLA movie. Warner Brother may now consider the team as existing only in a parallel universe, hence...there may be no crossover from the stand alone super hero film franchises like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

PS: Go to EW.com (Entertainment Weekly) ...and log onto popwatch.ew.com--You can cast your votes for who should play which of your favorite characters in the movie. There is an open forum there and it appears Warner is monitoring this chat room forum for our opinions!!!

metalwater ...Why did you refer too him as the black green lantern? He is the green lantern whether he is black or white, Dingle berry...

some of the people who have been posting are betting between the black Green Lantern and Hale Jordan, the white and original Green Lantern. Since I don't know the name of the black guy, this is just easier short hand to prevent confusion between the two. And btw, there are so many Green Lanterns now...I can't name who's, who...and in what sequence.

Other than Hal...I think there are three other people...1 black and 2 white that have worn the ring of Green Lantern. It just gets confusing so I short handed the process as i would if you and I were walking on the street and saw five or six people standing together of different backgrounds...and the same clothing. If I didn't know their names, and thought they were doing something of major interest, I'd say...look at the white guy who moved across the street...and look at the black guy who hopped in the car And, over there--look at the asian and latin guy who walked in the store, etc.

As well, I was using the black Green Lantern term to confirm that it would be that specific Green Lantern playing the part...as opposed to the 3 other previous Lanterns.

I accept.
I think he would play a really good John Stewart.
He's got this serious side to him. I like it.

Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. aka rapper T.I. has also read for the part. That's what WB is looking for, someone "hip & urban" for the role. Why don't the just go ahead and give it to Nick Cannon already? Because when it comes to "hip & urban" Nick Cannon makes'em all look like straight up bustas' !!!!!

He'd make and excellent John Stewart Green Lantern, but his name gets thrown into any discussion about black super heroes, so who knows how much truth is in this rumor.

I like the EW plot information, but I really don't care who the JL is going up against. I want to see the interpersonal relationships between the members of the league. That's what interests me the most.

I like Tyrese, but I still say the part should go to J. August Richards. He'd play a better Jon Stewert in my opinion. Guess the actors they get all depends on the movie's budget.

Tyrese is a decent actor and just needs good dialogue, but as someone said, his name is always being dropped when it refers to a black superhero. What I find really funny, is it seems people pick him, because he`s a bald black dude. Green Lantern and Luke Cage, bald. I think some people are like, "hmm, what young bald black actor can play this part? I know... Tyrese. He`s bald" There has to be other, better black actors out there, that can just shave their heads. Why is it always Tyrese? I really doubt that he is on the echelon of young male black talent in Hollywood. If he is, we are in trouble. As far as the Black Panther, it should be Chiwetel. That dude can act.

if Ving Rhames was a bit slimmer he'd make a great Green Lantern in my opinion. What about Michael Jai White, hes good talent going to waste. He'd make a great Green Lantern also.
