Ubisoft has announced the worldwide launch for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed™ will be in November 2007.

The Assassin's Creed franchise will make its debut on the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC. The game is being developed by an all-star team from Ubisoft's world-class Montreal studio.

The game is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players will assume the role of the main character, Altair, and will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and truly experience the art of a master assassin.

Assassin’s Creed will be available in North America at the MSRP of $59.99 with the Limited Edition priced at $69.99 – ESRB rating is pending.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one, but the prices for these games seriously need to come down. $60+ is ridiculous when you consider how much we shell out for the latest gaming rigs.

That Limited Edition better be uber.

This description of the Assassins is a little different than the one I am familiar with. I always thought they were a cultish group of Shi'i Muslims called the Nizari from the ismail'i sect that were so fanatically devoted to their leader that they were willing to go on suicide missions to kill their political enemies, both Christian and Muslim. The word assassin comes from the western bastardization of the word hashish since it was falsely believed they were high on opiates when they carried out their murders.

But, I guess after 800 years it is okay to turn a bunch of fanatical religious terrorists into good intentioned arbiters of peace.

By the way, Genghis Khan was a poet, Ivan the Terrible was a teddy bear and the Borgias were the model for the perfect 1950's nuclear family. Maybe in a few centuries Hitler will be remembered as the Walt Disney of Europe.

Kerrith, first off, they were suspected of using Hashish, which is derived from pot, same plant family. Marijuana is a hallucinogenic, not an opiate. Other then that you re right. But seeing as how we often make the christian crusaders out to be saints, and made the native americans out to be evil indians, its hardly a stretch. We recreate things all the time. I mean look at 300, the Spartans didnt care about freedom they enslaved their neighbors to serve as a slave race. And the Romans had slavery all over the place. Its a game get over it.
