There have been rumors that Kate Beckinsale and Wiseman having a busy scheduled prompted Lakeshore Entertainment to begin production on Underworld 3:Rise of the Lycans, an upcoming prequel to the series. Now, Lakeshore's head boss has confirmed the rumors to Collider, saying that the 4th film will be the next sequel in the group focusing on continuing the story of Beckinsale and Speedman's story.

"It's a theatrical release definitely," Rosenberg tells the site. "I feel great about that. I think it's the strongest story that we've put together of the three. I think it's really terrific. I think it leads to a 4th. When we did the 1st 'Underworld,' we imagined three - the 1st one, a sequel and then a prequel. The 3rd is a prequel, so the 4th would carry on where Kate and Scott Speedman left off after 2, so I think this is going to be terrific really this one." As for the prequel's storyline: "This is how they meet and Michael Sheen becomes the leader of the werewolves. This is told from the werewolf's

Prequel plot: This prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. I liked the first one, the presence of viktor was something, really impressif, but the second episode was so desapointed, before i feel interrested on the third and the fourth, they really have to do something new...

I think Rosenberg may be getting a bit ahead of himself there..Any fourth installment would be unlikely to hit theaters until 2010-2011 and we don't know if Kate Beckinsale or Speedman would even be interested in returning for it at that time.

Beckinsale is married to the the Director, so I'm sure he wouldn't have any problems getting her back.

No guarantee that Wiseman will be back to direct the fourth one, Lock. He may just be as busy as he is now and only act as a producer..Or that they'll still be married in 2010...Or that he would force her to return even if they were still married.

"Hard to see, the future is..." :)

Hell, it may all work out. I know I'd rather see them continue with the main story than get a prequel but I understand them both being busy at the moment and Lakeshore/Screen Gems not wanting to wait any longer..It may work out and both Kate and hubby Wiseman may return again..I just think that Rosenberg may be getting a little ahead of himself..

As long as they don't go too nuts for budget for 3rd film the 4th which everybody wants should happen.

This si a movie series with a concept that I want to love so much, but I was only slightly impressed with the first and literally fell asleep during the second, they can try, and I love the idea, but I'll bring pajamas just in case.

Just get rid of Speedman - he can't act his way out of a paper bag.

I liked the first two movies, but I'm not much of a Speedman fan; the guy has absolutely no charisma on screen. I like the idea of the prequel, so I'm looking forward to seeing that especially if Bill Nighy's coming back as Viktor.

Having a prequel for this series is a joke. We know the background (intimately), especially with the last movie. They are going to lose everyone who likes these movies before the fourth movie comes out.

I agree with wessmith, Speedman is pretty boring, but he looks great all makeuped out. And as for Beckinsale, I think it goes without saying that seeing her in skin tight leather or just skin is always worth seeing a movie for. I will see these, but I'm pretty dissappointed that the third movie is a prequel instead of a sequel.

jmaxx, my sentiments exactly. I always said there was no need for a prequel. They really need to skip that prequel and move the story forward. Even if we have to wait. Because if part 2 is any indication they're only going to keep shrinking the fanbase of what is a good concept going wrong.
