UNDERWORLD Prequel Cast & Plot Update

A load of information was published this morning in regards to the upcoming UNDERWORLD prequel courtesy of Variety. The trade confirmed that Wiseman will be producing the film only while Patrick Tatopoulo steps in to direct. The film will star Michael Sheen (Lucian), Bill Nighy (Viktor) and Rhona Mitra (Sonja) in an origin tale of the feud between the Lycans and the Vampires. Danny McBride is handling the screenplay.

Plot Summary: The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

"For the first time we will experience the 'Underworld' universe through the eyes of the Lycans," Wiseman said. "Patrick has always played such an essential part in helping to create 'Underworld' from the start. ... So I feel it is both exciting and fitting that (he) now takes the helm."

This is bad news to us fans. We already know what happened in the past, what I want to see is what happens after the second film. We don't care about the past, we care about whats next.

I guess my name isn't "we" because I'm a fan of the UW franchise and this sounds very interesting to me. Lucian was one of my absolute favorite characters in UW and seeing him get more screen time is awesome.

I also would like to see the movies move forward, backward is stupid. Maybe they can do 1/4 prequel and 3/4 with Kate in tight leather which "we" all want to see.

This story was already told, although abbreviated, we still know what happens. I'm all for moving the story forward, give us something new.
Having said that I'll see it either way cause I still like the premise.

No way would I see an UW movie without Kate in it, and I have to agree a prequel is just plain stupid.

But hell George Lucas did it with a trilogy and we paid a bunch of money to watch it, so what do we know (rhetorical and fairly sarcastic question)?

Come on, the end of the second movie almost guaranteed us that there would be a third movie AFTER the second movie, THAT'S the movie "we" want to see (using the royal "we" of course).

With Rhona Mitra in it, I'm there.

No Kate = no Underworld movie. Forget it. *Maybe* catch it when it comes on cable and I can see it for free...

Why go back before the current story has been resolved? There is so much more to tell in the current storyline as of the end of UW2.

I`d be all for a prequel if it was another story, but like it was said already, we already know that Lucian beats that dude but spares his life so that they can work out some sort of deal and his vampire lover gets fried by her father Viktor. Sorry if I ruined it for anyone. I just saved you 11 bucks.

I don't know... I agree the story has been told, but setting this up[ in the past from the Lycans point of view, frees them up to really add an epic spin to this bad boy... I keep picturing a vampire army on horseback riding into battle towards an army of their once enslaved Lycan, lightning crashing and rain pouring down.... Yep I'd pay to see that.
