Universal Pictures has bought a sci-fi thriller pitch from Simon Kinberg and Brett Matthews. The story is being kept under wraps for now. Matthews will write the script.

Simon Kinberg told Variety, "It's more thriller than big, broad action; more gritty than other sci-fi movies we've seen in the recent past. Almost what BOURNE IDENTITY did for action movies, this will attempt to do for sci-fi movies."

Simon Kinberg, David Engel and Lawrence Mattis will produce.

It's probably a cross between the X-Files and the Bourne Identity.

Sounds like Blade Runner

The Bourne Identity didn't "do" anything for action movies. It was an action movie, even a pretty good one, but it didn't revolutionize the genre.

This new scheme is preposterous. Here's the script.

Hollywood: "We have this new film idea. We're not even going to give you a ridicuously brief and absurdly vague story line or a title. What we will do is refernece a popular movie that will have no actual connection to the film and you should be excited by that."

Me: "Blow it out your a**"
