Universal is planning another comic adaptation, centering on the aftermath of an alien invasion. The studio has optioned Marc Guggenheim's Resurrection comic from Oni Press and has set producer Scott Stuber and Eric Gitter to produce the flick. Guggenheim, who also runs the series "Eli Stone", will executive produce along with Oni Press' Peter Schwerin. The comic series was first published last October and there have been three issues to date.

Plot Concept: I
n the tradition of such timeless science fiction films like The Day The Earth Stood Still and War of the Worlds, this is the story of an alien race come to conquer. But while those classic tales focus on the invasion, Resurrection starts when those stories end. After years of conflict the aliens are gone and the planet is safe… or is it? Who ended the war? How did they do it? Where do we go from here?

Anyone remember Strikeforce: Morituri from Marvel? That was cool. Love to see an adaptation of that. Anyway, they did something similar. The series started while we were fighting the aliens, and about 20 issues or so in, we won. Then, they kept going and found out there were other races involved, etc. After the series ended, I think they did a few one-shots in graphic novel format that were pretty cool.

Sounds interesting. I mean, lets take War of the Worlds as an example. Okay, the Martians are gone but the earth has been devastated, entire civilizations wrecked, now what?

Anyone here read Dickson's "Way of the Pilgrim"? It starts w/ the aliens already here with humanity subjugated, and how we get out from under their thumbs.

It sounds like a movie about FEMA. I'm sure there's more to it but I'm just not sold yet.

Uhhhhh, in The Day The Earth Stood Still, I don't think the aliens came to conquer anyone on Earth, so I don't think that's the right movie to use. Invaders from Mars, yeah.

Sounds like what would have been in a sequel to Independence Day, had one ever been made.

I'm guessing by the title the story is more of a tale of hope and survival than action and explosions. I think that would make for a good spin since most writers would turn the material into another story of destruction and attacks.
