Universal Plans Bloody Valentine for WOLFMAN

Because nothing says I love you better than a werewolf howling at the full moon. Universal has announced a new release date for their remake of THE WOLFMAN, says Bloody Disgusting. This reworking of the 1941 classic starring Lon Chaney and Bela Lugosi will now be released on Feb 13, 2009 due to production timing or various other reasons. Still, this new date is much more hopeful for horror fans who were questioning the previous November 14, 2008 release date, a week after James Bond 22 and before Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince hits theaters. Universal seems to agree with the horror fans on that one. Benico Del Toro stars as the "Wolfman" in this revision. Rick Baker, a werewolf make-up effects veteran (An American Werewolf in London), is in charge of the creature effects. Andrew Kevin Walker handled the screenplay while Mark Romanek is directing...

Plot Concept: Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.

Here's a photo of Benicio looking very wolf-like before Rick Baker has even applied his own effects.

THE WOLFMAN hits theaters everywhere Feb 15, 2009.

back to the 80 S the specail effect for (An American Werewolf in London) was amazing, 20 years later, with all the computer stuff will be terrific, I myself can t wait to see this movie. Hope is not going to have a ridiculous end like the jack nicholson one, the part when the figth with the horses....!

CG effects can look pretty cool, but I think they work better when they are used to 'enhance' the look. Many times CG effects still look "too clean" if you ask me.

Though I'm a big werewolf fan, so I hope this is done well! American Werewolf in London ROCKS!

When I was a kid I loved werewolves, I even loved Teenwolf, and thought the Howling was amazing, I even drooled over In the Company of Wolves, but the grandaddy of them all was The Wolfman, it was cool even in the old black and white...
Here is the interesting thing though, the Wolfman, and werewolf have become two very different creatures, where the wolfman is a beast with wolf like characteristics, the Werewold is more beast than man, and sometimes all beast... i think this film will be more like the original, and look forward to it.... Hey if you want cheep Werewolf thrills, don't forget to check out Dog Soldiers and Ginger Snaps!

MadManic999 you are spot on! Dog Soldiers & Ginger Snaps was a lot of fun. The "werewolf designs" weren't too bad either. I really like the 'bi-ped' werewolves, but there just has been something to be desired in many of the films. (CGI hair is not the way to go, that's for sure).

I hope the story is good with this new one. Wolfman has always hit me like "Jo Jo the dog face boy" from some sideshow and not as "cool" as it could be.

Agreed Ginger snaps goes down on my list of guilty pleasure werewolf movies. I'll probably check out dog soldiers, I never did before because it reminded me of that Mario Van Peebles Werewolf cop movie (made for HBO) . AND I liked "Blood and Chocolate". It fell into the realm of all beast. The werewolves turned completely into wolves (unspectacularly) but it was still a fun werewolf movie.

Didn't they release "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson on Valentine's Day too? I seem to remember that.

Holy Crap...if that's Benicio 'before' makeup i'm afraid to see what he looks like after!
By the way, I'm glad they got Rick Baker to do the werewolf effects. His work has always been the best.
Here's a little tv trivia: Rick Baker also designed the werewolf costumes for the short lived 80's Fox series WEREWOLF.

MAKE-UP? MAKE-UP? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING MAKE-UP.

The WEREWOLF series on Fox was cool and like a lot of Fox shows...died before it's time. It was the Incredible Hulk (but with Werewolves if you don't remember it) Great 'Creepy' wolf effects and Freakin' CHUCK CONNERS as Skorzeny (or something like that) The 'Evil Wereworlf'.

Nice Call Moz72!
