Universal Plans FIRST MAN on Moon

Universal has acquired nonfiction novel First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong and will turn it into a film about the first person to set foot on the moon, reports Variety. NASA historian James R. Hansen got rare direct access to Armstrong, a test pilot-turned-astronaut who was so driven to reach the moon and play the role of American hero that he became known as "the Ice Commander."

Nicole Perlman will write the script. Temple Hill Entertainment partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey produce.

"The closer he got to the moon, the further away he became from his family," Perlman told the trade. "He had a family tragedy before Apollo that turned him into this driven astronaut, and he became such a perfect hero that while Buzz Aldrin was announced to be the first man on the moon, NASA reversed its decision because Neil was regarded as more heroic."

Armstrong returned from the moon as one of the most famous men on Earth but didn't capitalize on it with a political career or endorsements. He reconnected with his family, shut out the world and became an intensely private man.

I wonder if they will address the non landing on the moon in the movie. Would be nice if they could prove the landing at this point. At least that's what the nuts say.

Last night I turned my telescope toward the moon at co-ordinates 26°8' N 3°38' E the site of the Apollo 15 landing.

Amazing to see the lander and lunar rover. But damn me if someone hadn't left a parking ticket on the rover. Those traffic wardens get everywhere!

If I remember correctly Armstrong was chosen because he was the commander of the mission, not because he was more heroic.

In hindsite, Buzz would have been a better pick because he embraced the spiritual impact of being on the Moon and didn't turn away from the spotlight like Armstrong did. It's a shame really, even to this day he seems to want nothing to do with it. In an age when morons are saying we never really landed on the moon his insight would do wonders I believe.

This is a movie I'd really like to see. I don't know much about the first man to set foot on the moon. I can't imagine what that experience must have been like.

A few months back, during a bout of insomnia, I researched some of the "we didn't land on the moon" conspiracy theory websites. Really entertaining stuff. At times they had me believing...then again it could have been because I hadn't slept in a day and a half!

The man visits where I work on occasion. Very stoic...as most "old school" military men are. It's easy to see he is used to having his gluteus maximus kissed.

Wessmith - So what are your thoughts now? Just curious.

bigsxc2000...Most of the conspiracy theories I could read and explain, but honestly there were a few that made me scratch my head in wonder. Still, I can't really believe that a coverup of this magnitude would remain secret for very long and certainly not for this long. I believe we sent men to the moon, landed there and brought them home safely. Humans are amazingly inventive creatures with an astounding capacity to do wonderful things...when we can get our collective heads out of our asses that is!

Didn't they bring a camera to the moon? It's always the footage of tv camera's on that monitor. You would think they would have tried a few pictures from the capsule. I also heard a lot of that old footage was missing now. Does seem odd. And can't we see the moon landing spot with all the powerfull scopes we have now? There should be junk on there still right? Unless all covered with dust by now.
