With Wanted grossing $176.1 mil as of this morning based around a budget of only $75, it's not surprising that there would be sequel talks starting in Universal Pictures circles. In a new announcement this morning around producer Marc Platt grabbing a new 5 year deal with the studio, Variety is confirming that one of the films on the agenda is a Wanted 2 with director Timur Bekmambetov and writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

For the sequel, Platt acknowledged that the creative team is still working on the challenge of continuing the story after most of the principal characters ended the original in no position for an encore. But the film was designed as a potential franchise, Universal production president Donna Langley said. The intention is to get James McAvoy back.

"The writers are at work already, and those creative discussions are taking place," said Platt, who is producing once again with Jim Lemley.

Another project in the planning stages from Bekmambetov is
a Universal adaptation of the Christian Gossett sci-fi graphic novel The Red Star, which has a script draft by Matthew Sand.

Platt also just set up a remake of the 1973 rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.

No Angelina no sequel. Even too skinny she's still a huge presence onscreen.

Who says no Angie?

***SPOILER ALERT***
Just cuz she got killed? They have the regeneration baths.
***END SPOILER***

I think I even read one of the producers, or Mark Millar, or someone say that in an interview.

Then couldn't they regenerate the entire gang? Why didn't they throw the rat guy in one of those pools rather than get upset over the whole deal? I think he said it helps them heal quicker not bring them back from the dead.

I thought it was a good, fun, stand alone movie. Part of that fun was how it all came together. Hard to repeat that unless a sequel was already outlined before they made this movie.

The movie was great b/c the source material was great. If Millar isn't involved then it won't be worth the time. Not every successful film needs a sequal.

He should do Dusk Watch instead

I just saw the movie over the weekend. I didn't think it was that great. And, I liked Timor's other two films, Nightwatch and Daywatch. Part of the problem for me was all the really cool action scenes where in the trailers. Plus, I already had any idea of how the plot would progress, so I basically was sitting through a movie I had already seen.

Also, I hate shaky cam action scenes. Do a good job of choreographing the action and shoot the damn scene. You don't see Speilberg, Cameron, or any of the action greats doing that. Why? Because they know how to shoot a an intense sequence without having to "fake it."

Though I don't agree with your take on the movie samson I will agree I hate the shaky camera scenes too. I think the Bourne movies success made it a norm in action films now. Which I was worried would happen. At least it wasn't as bad as the Bourne movies.

The directors you named are old school, Hollywood likes the young new hip ways.

Wanted was just ok for me but I'm more interested in the Red Star prospects. This story has been summed up as the next Star Wars meets 300 meets Starship Troopers. I never read the comic but that description was enough to get my juices flowing. And although Timur lacks a lot as a director IMO his visuals are so rich that I'm ready to pay to see him do it.

I'd be up for another. It was fun.

They don't need Jolie, but obviously they do need James McAvoy, or why bother.

Call me crazy, but why not consider doing something more like the Crow series? Same basic premise for each run, but different details, different players?

The Crow, BTW, could have been one of the most successful franchises if they'd stuck with the stories from the comics and, I don't know, had a budget.

Just a thought...
