Universal Pictures has premiered the first teaser trailer for their upcoming third installment of the Mummy franchise, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The teaser trailer is attached to movies this weekend in theaters and can be seen online by clicking here. The film stars Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Maria Bello, John Hannah, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Wong, Luke Ford and Isabella Leong.

Bello is playing Evie, previously played by Rachel Weisz while Luke Ford plays the son, Alex. Director Rob Cohen led the project, based on a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Plot Summary: The blockbuster global "Mummy" franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor." Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O'Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O'Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.

Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China's ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O'Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.

As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force...unless the O'Connells can stop him first. Now, in "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," the trademark thrills and visually spectacular action of the "Mummy" series will be redefined for a new generation.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will hit theaters August 1, 2008.

I think I'll probably end up seeing this in theaters, don't know why.

Funny, enough, if I didn`t know better I would say that Sommers was still directing it. They obviously got someone on Cohen that is close enough to Sommers style of directing. Whether that is a good thing or not remains to be seen but I like what I saw in the trailer. It looks like a fun popcorn movie, like the first 2.

Holy Smokin' Joe! That looks like great fun. Dare I say it? It even looks better than the new Indy movie.

Enh. Looked ok. I'd probably be more inclined to see it if it were an original movie and not the 3rd in a series. If it's a sequel, there should be some continuity from one movie to the next. With Weisz and Sommers both out, and the action moving from Egypt to China (I'm supposing), it just doesn't seem right. After all, aren't Evie and her brother Egyptologists?

I have to admit, that does look kinda fun. I love adventure movies like this, so I'll most likely check it out.

I will be seeing this movie at the theatre. i liked all the other Mummy movies (even the one with the Rock) and see no reason why this won't be of the same quality

I'll see it at the movies as well but to be honest the trailer left me yearning for something more. Hopefully they didn't disclose the highlights of the film in that trailer.

Was it me, or did some of the acting seem a little over the top? Liked the first two, and it seems Brendan Fraser is becoming the poor man's Indiana Jones.

Oded Fehr is part of the franchise and would have been better with him in it again. If they can have a Moor fighting with Robin Hood, then they could have an Egyptian fighting a Chinese emperor.
