Update: Director Rumor Debunked for 28 MONTHS LATER

Update: It seems that the rumor of 28 Months Later grabbing a director may not be true, Maniacs. Twitchfilm posted an update on the latest speculation by saying they received a very brief note from insiders within the third installment stating that the Paul Andrew Williams rumor is "totally untrue".

For now, no director is attached and the only speculation we have to go by is original director Danny Boyle hinting to the press back when 28 Weeks Later hit theaters that he could return behind the camera for the third film.

Original: It's amazing what you'll hear at various film festivals around the world. Sometimes those whispers you hear from insiders may even end up true. If the latter is the case here, not only do we have a 28 Months Later coming into production shortly, we also have a director already attached to lens the project. Arrow in the Head was on hand at the Sitges Film Festival this weekend and grabbed this interesting piece of knowledge.

Now I kind of knew about that already but mention it here for those who may not know. The scoop I caught was that a director has been chosen for this second installment. Who? PAUL ANDREW WILLIAMS baby! The UK director of THE COTTAGE (Read our review of it here). So there you have it! The 28 MONTHS LATER wheels are in motion! Arrow out!

The Cottage turned a few heads this year and 28 Days Later creator-executive producer Danny Boyle may have been one of them. There have been whispers that we could see a third installment in the franchise ever since 28 Weeks Later hit theaters May 11, 2007. Before that release even. The second film wasn't exactly a box office juggernaut, having pulled in only $64.2 million worldwide but there is no telling how much money it made from its DVD run later that year. The budget was likely very low as well. The first film was produced for only $8 million and wound up grossing $82.7 million worldwide in 2003.

Funny, cause Danny Boyle said in an interview he was going to come back and helm this one cause the last wasn't possible since he was doing “Sunshine”. Regardless, I think another installment is welcomed the previous two have been enjoyable.

Agreed. I would be there for a new one. Obviously the first one was the better of the two and if the third one focused more on character rather than explosions like the second it should be great.

Danny Boyle should do whatever it takes to direct this one.

Or 28 decades later... me and some of my employees were joking about how far this could go... 28 generations later... centuries... and so on.

...don't 4get 28 shitty movies Later. I just got tha Elm Street box set and they were talkin bout how sequels began2 get silly and fall victim 2 makin fun of themselves. If they really make it2 28 decades...which those money hungry Hollywood hookas might end up doin, it would end up hilarious2 tha audience. 280 years after tha outbreak? Nobody should be left.and, they'd try2 make it look futuristic and well as apocolyptic. That's why Resident Evil3 kinda pissed me off.
