Update: Jessica Biel Out of WONDER WOMAN

Update: As mentioned in our Green Lantern story from earlier today, Jessica Biel is out of the running for WONDER WOMAN in the upcoming JLA movie. Entertainment Weekly is reporting the actress passed on the project. This may or may not be true. Biel might have seen the public reaction and decided to pass on the project or WB could have been acting on the same principals. In either case, this is most likely why WB has said they will refuse to announce any cast members attached until they have the whole superhero team. Until then, "Rumor Control" continues...

Here's the previous story posted earlier in the week:

Well, there goes aussie actress Victoria Hill's hopes of being the next Amazonian princess. Yesterday, we passed along the news that she has auditioned for the role and today, we're passing along that it may be too little, too late for the actress. Variety is now reporting that Warner Bros has an eye on who they want for the next WONDER WOMAN in their JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA film set for theaters in summer 2009. The trade is reporting that WB and Jessica Biel are reaching a potential deal which would fill one of the six major characters in the film. The other five being Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Flash & Green Lantern.

Variety did ask for a confirmation on the Biel casting and WB shot back that they would prefer to announce the whole cast at one time rather then leaking out casting news one character at a time.

It was previously assumed we would get relative unknowns for the roles in this upcoming adaptation of the Justice League.  It could be that this casting was planned by the studio because Warner Bros has confirmed that they hope to launch franchises of WONDER WOMAN and FLASH out of this JLA movie. They would want to get an established actress for a role in which they hope to expand into its own franchise. If this is the case, then the Ryan Reynolds as Flash speculation may not be far off base here. Speaking of which, Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds were both co-stars in BLADE: TRINITY.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA hits theaters everywhere summer 2009.

She's Super HOT,
But as you all know I have HUGE reservations about some skinny lil athletic actress trying to take on the role of the Mighty Amazonian Princess.
She's got a great ass, but she is no Wonder Woman.

I actually don't agree.... She could be great in the role.

Also, I still hope they go forward with Ryan Reynolds as the Flash... He'd be the perfect Wally West.

She would make a servicable Wonder Woman, but I was looking for someone more ethnic with a more curvaceous body. They just want to cast Biel in hopes of getting extra press coverage thanks to her relationship with Justin Timberlake...no other reason.

That said, between Biel and Megan Fox...(the latter actress having been suggested in the last posted JLA story by a fellow reader who left a comment earlier today.) Fox blows the saccharin Biel away, in every way...from her look to sex appeal!!! Even as an actor, Fox has more charisma and real acting ability and presence on the screen than Biel. Yep...I would much rather Meagan Fox have the role, as that would be a more inspired choice, for all the right reasons.

PS-Ryan Reynolds sucks in every role that he is in. The guy just doesn't have star quality!!! Watching him on screen is like hearing a chalk board being scratched--in other words, he is just annoying.

You've got to be kidding me, she is not Wonder Woman. What next, Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman? oh right...

and metalwater, I actually agree with you for once, with everything you said, 100%.

oh metalwater........aw man.......not Ryan Reynolds........Ryan is actually a good friend of mine! I've known him for a very long long time and he's the funniest man alive as far as I'm concerned, even though he's trying to break his stereotype, but it's tough going these days......everyone wants him to be Van Wilder. He's gonna be huge, I've always had that feeling..........shit dude this is the first time I can't agree with you!

God god no! How about we get someone who has some acting... well let's get someone better who doesn't "act" like a rock!

superfrank78 • Sep 24, 2007, 11:23pm •
why? Just go the route of Brandon Routh and go find someone who fits the role better...who cares if the public knows her? we all are going to see the Justice League not Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds- whats next Justin Timberlake as Aquaman?

Yeoman • Sep 24, 2007, 11:48pm •
wish,
you're being sarcastic right? LOL but really I say Ryan Reynolds would suck too.

If Ryan wants to destroy his old image, he needs to stay away from material like this and perhaps go the independant route for a while. Blade 3 and Van Wilder just weren't star making roles.

That said...the best movies being made today are indies...and Ryan has enough money to finance a few independant films or at least co-finance them. By going indy for a while, he can guarantee himself choice, and thus...risky parts. The film festival circuit is his ticket to stardom in smaller roles...and more unexpected and off beat parts in films overall. But that Van Wilder/Blade 3 sarcastic funny man routine of his has to go or he'll wind-up being the next Dane Cook or Chevy Chase.

If he impresses me in something, I'll be the first to say it, but for the most part until he makes his break through in films, he will forever be at the mercy of various producers and execs. If he is as talented as you say...tell him to make his own films, his way...and keep his head-up.

That's funny...Justin Timberlake as Aquaman...well, if Biel has been cast...that's exactly where this movie is going...to turkey ville!!! They should just turn this movie into a comedy spoof and start the "Dick In The Box" jokes!!!

No wonder why Ryan Gosling turned this movie down cold!!!
