As Maniac Flint has passed along, shortly after one Memphis network said Freeman was in serious condition, a new update from The Clairon-Ledger has updated that other than some broken bones, the actor is fine.

Actor Morgan Freeman suffered some broken bones in a car accident Sunday, but will recover, friends said this afternoon.

Freeman, 71, and a passenger, Demaris Meyer, age unknown, were airlifted to a Memphis hospital following a single-car accident around 11:30 pm. Meyer's condition was not immediately available.

Freeman’s business partner, Bill Luckett of Clarksdale, visited with the actor at the hospital today and said Freeman will be fine.

"He's resting quietly and has some fractures. Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent," Luckett said. "He's in good spirits, but he's in some pain."

Filmmaker Paul Saltzman said Freeman suffered a broken shoulder and a broken arm and expected recovery time will be six to eight weeks.

News has just hit the wires from a Memphis news outlet that thespian Morgan Freeman was involved in a serious accident and had to be air lifted to the hospital. Here's the statement from WMCTV:

Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman was involved in a serious car accident Sunday night in north Mississippi.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Ben Williams said Freeman, 71, and a passenger, Demaris Meyer, were traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 around 11:30pm in Tallahatchie County when his vehicle went off the edge of the road.  Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest.

Emergency crews removed Freeman and Meyer from the vehicle using the jaws of life.  According to Williams, they were both airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, told the AP he arrived at the scene soon after the accident happened.  McFerrin said it appeared that Freeman's car was airborne when it left the highway and landed in a ditch.

McFerrin said bystanders converged on the scene trying to get a glimpse of the actor.

When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, McFerrin said Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies."

Kathy Stringer, a spokesperson at The MED, said Freeman was listed in serious condition Monday morning.

The AP reported the Maxima is owned by Meyer, a Memphis resident.  Her condition has not been released.

It's The Curse of The Dark Knight
Conway Wickliffe dies on the set
Heath Ledger dies while on post production
C.Bale gets arrested
And now M. Freeman in this car accident.
My best wishes go out to Freeman

Why is Freeman drivin a POS 1997 Nissan. That's wot I want to know.

Great to hear he's in an accident and still able to joke around with the phototard vultures.

Here's to a quick recovery.

lol MxM
I also want to know what's he doing with 1997 Maxima and why isn't he driving a Prius?
Maybe he's saving his money for his "golden years" :)

Get yer facts straight, Wiseguy. Bale was never arrested.

The article states at the end that the Maxima belonged to the passenger, not Freeman. I'm sure he's got a collection of BMWs, Audis, Mercedes, etc at his digs. Along with a Prius.

HAHAHAHA Wiseguy, sure his "golden years" sounds about right. With all the hits he's had, his latter years will probably be made out of solid gold.

(that makes no sense whatsoever - Ed)

I'm fucking nuts Ed, what did you expect?
(point taken - Ed)

I also like your "TDK curse" theory. It's dark and disturbing.

Rgtchtiger, my faith in hollywood excess is restored!

There are only 2 really good reasons to be a filthy rich Hollywood actor anyway, and I'm pretty sure one of em is so that you don't have to drive a POS 1997 Nissan.

I'm pretty sure the other involves plaid mini-skirt clad nubiles and a large swimming pool filled with butterscotch pudding.

At least it better, because that's the only reason I signed up for acting class.

Hwy 32 + 11:30pm + 1997 Nissan Maxima + female passenger + "went off the edge of the roadway" = DUI, booty call?

71 and still frisky...nice.

makabriel,
You need to check your own facts. He was arrested after turning himself in and was released after 4 hours under the condition that he report back on a set date. The same thing was reported by just about all the major reporting news. So unless you know something the rest of the reporting news world doesn't know you're mistaken

Freeman was gettin head. He put his head back, eyes rolled to the back of his head and BAM!, he flipped over.
Who cares what car he was drivin, you can get head in any vehicle and it's all good.
You know it to be true!!!

From what I just saw on CNN Morgan was joking and laughing with the EMT's and the cop onsite, so hopefully he's not in that bad of a shape. Best wishes and prayers, man.
