Update: Three New Posters for G.I JOE

By: Jarrod Sarafin

Source: Cinema Expo Amsterdam

Update: Two new posters for the upcoming movie have been added at the Film1.nl site below. One features Sienna Miller as the Baroness (click here) and the other Ray Park as Snake Eyes (click here). The Duke poster is below.

Original Story: While titles for movies are always subject to change or be varied for international markets, a new movie poster has popped up online for G.I Joe courtesy of Film1.nl. The poster came out of the Amsterdam Cinema Expo conference and it features Channing Tatum (Duke) on the cover with the new title being G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra. As I say above, it may just be the title for the movie overseas much like Live Free or Die Hard was actually Die Hard 4.0 in some territories. Or it could just be an early title subject to change.

But for now, with a domain name already bought, it's safe to say the new title is just indeed G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra. The upcoming adaptation of the 80's Hasbro franchise stars Tatum,
Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston. Director Stephen Sommers is leading the production, based on a screenplay by Stuart Beattie. The film will be hitting theaters Aug. 7, 2009.

Hate to say it, (because I don't like the costumes) But this poster has me jacked to see some big screen G.I. Joe action

Well that's better than I thought. I was thinking they were going to go with G.I.Jane to appease all the feminists.

Not too long ago they had some spy shots floating around and the costumes looked beyond ridiculous. I'm sure they'll touch them up digitally. But right now from what I've seen I'm not impressed nor am I expecting much from this film. Hope I'm wrong and it kicks ass.

Gauelyboy, Duke's costume in this poster is virtually identical to the outfits the vampires wore in the beginning of Blade 3 when they were getting off the helicopter to go into the pyramid.
IE: its cool, but its nothing special.

Rise Of Cobra is a pretty good title but they'll have to really impress me with the first trailer... till them I wont be holding my breath.

wiseguy, the average GI Joe character wears outfits that look beyond rediculous. If they get it half right, they would rework the outfits like Joel Silver did for the X-Men chracters.

mcKraken is 150% correct about how the costumes should have been re-worked.
X-Men is a great example of how to take goofy comic book costumes, and combine that with the real-world body armor thing, yet still have a touch of the comic in it.

Is this G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra or Metal Gear Solid: The Rise of Solid Snake?? I didn't have gripes about Scarlett being in the black body armor, though I would have followed the color scheme or her comic/cartoon incarnation while the black body armor is more fitting for The Baroness and they got the look of Snake Eyes down...but come on, not the whole G.I. Joe unit I hope. Now you see why people griped over the look of the Transformers last year because it looked too much like Bionicle. I do have some measure of hope that this movie will deliver, but we are talking about Stephen Sommers. Action-wise, we know that will be brought to the table, but its the overall execution of the final product if the story flows well which we really haven't heard too much about and that's raising questions a bit. I'll be there for G.I. Joe, and no doubt it will make money, but if it underachieves, expect A LOT of "DAMN YOU STEPHEN SOMMERS" chants on this site which surprisingly hasn't been brought up yet. Or would that be gimmick infringement because of "DAMN YOU MICHAEL BAY!!"

How about Cobra Begins!?

Whiskeymovie • Jun 23, 2008, 06:19pm •
Hey looks like Joey from Friends with a gun.....I still think it looks pretty bad-ass,,,,,I am stoked to see a trailer.....I just really really hope that Cobra doesn't have that nails on a chalk board sound. is Joseph Gordon Levitt playing Cobra?

Also, by the title, it sounds like they will be more setting it up for Cobra to have a bigger part in later movies, so I am curious to see what happens.

I like the name. It's getting me excited, plus I was pissed about the costumes at first too, but I'm getting over it. I think about the TV show and I think about how they all had their own look, but before that I had the action figures and other than snake eyes they all wore the same costume (obviously because it was cheaper to make the toys). They were all green then, but I'm good with black now, though I hope they wear their normal clothes when they aren't in combat situations. I bet they will.

I am excited for this. Completely pumped in fact. I just hope I don't get my expectations to high like I did for Transformers.

And whiskey, if you mean Cobra commander, than I couldn't disagree more. Loved his voice, same as Starscream, but he died.

I was initially not thrilled with the all black body armor but I think I'm getting over it. I'm beginning to see holes on my action figure shelf that could be filled with some new Hasbro swag. I'm still not happy with the look of Stormshadow or Destro. I'll wait to see the finished film before I pass final judgement though.

For the record, the poster looks much better than the other stills of Duke. Still think he's too young but hey, better than Marlon Wayans (possibly the worst casting call of all time).
