Update: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Wilson's casting in the story below and confirmed more names besides Shia LaBeouf and Isabel Lucas. See below...

The sequel to last year's megahit about a race of automotive automatons smashing it out on Earth reteams director Michael Bay with returning stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro.

Original Story: Rainn Wilson ("The Office") has confirmed to MTV that he will be doing a cameo as a university professor in the upcoming sequel Transformer 2. In the original version, another comedian played a cameo part, which proved pivotal in getting Sam (Shia LaBeouf) his first car. That would of course be Bernie Mac. The situation may be a bit different here but from what Rainn joked about above, it may prove to be more a comedic part in the movie.

The screenplay was handled by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Ehren Kruger. Production is getting handled through exec producer Spielberg within DreamWorks & Paramount.

Also in the news for the next installment is shoot details for the Bethlehem set. Residents were sent notices (via CS) about times and locations and what to expect on location, which does include military helicopters. Some of the street elements have been switched to Chinese writing, indicating this indeed will be the "battle scene" between the robots in a fictional foreign city.

"The work will include aerial work with both camera and military helicopters, large scale pyrotechnics, prop guns and squibs, and large lights. We are working with the city to close 3rd Street from Hayes to Polk and Polk Street from 3rd to 1st 7pm - 6am all three days. This will help us maintain a safety perimeter for our work. Local traffic and emergency lanes will be kept open at all times."

Transformers 2 will hit theaters June 26, 2009.

Another aussie soapy starlet getting a break in a big budget hollywood movie. I mean, im all for hot blonde surfer aussie chicks being in movies and giving Nicole Kidman a rest but seriously, Rachel Taylor and Isabel Lucas cannot act their way out of an FHM photoshoot. But still even Heath Ledger and Julian McMahon did their time on Home and Away.

I am about an hour from Bethlehem, I would love to see if I could check it out.....I am also curious about the script...Ehren Kruger is known for his twist endings, (Arlington Road, The Ring, The Skeleton Key, Impostor)...I am just wondering if Transformers is going to have a crazy twist or something.

The crazy twist is that the whole thing is a reality tv series called Survivor where contestants are stranded on a far away planet and is being broadcast back to Cybertron. The winner gets a lifetime supply of oil. Maybe not...

Is anybody else worried that John Turturro is listed as part of the returning cast? Wasn't it pretty much a consensus that the whole "Sector 7" part of the first movie was the opposite of a good time? I know they disbanded the organization at the end of the movie, so hopefully he's coming back in a role that won't be as cringe-worthy. The man can act; he just needs to be utilized better.

I wonder if Isabel Lucas is playing the Rachael Taylor character. She looks about the same. That's fine. As long as Megan Fox is coming back. Damn, she's hot. Speaking of hot, I don't see Jon Voigt and Anthony Anderson in that cast list...

There is no first street I know first hand I live in Bethlehem. I think it cool that my hometown will be featured in a movie even though there most likely the name of the city would be changed. The chinesee letter gave me that hint. The only other time there was a movie filmed here was about 15 years ago when the movie Shcool Ties was filmed.
