In a breaking story, Variety reports that Mickey Rourke (currently generating buzz as 'The Wrestler') is in talks to play the bad guy in 'Iron Man 2'.
The article describes the role as "Tony Stark's Russian alter ego, a heavily tattooed bruiser who is in the arms trade and battles Iron Man in his own nuclear-powered armored suit."
A Russian in a suit of armor? Sounds like Crimson Dynamo to us.
Actor Sam Rockwell is also in negotiations for another villain role.
Director Jon Favreau is expected to roll cameras on the movie this spring. Robert Downey Jr. will return to the role of Tony Stark with Don Cheadle stepping into the part of Jim Rhodes.
UPDATED: The Hollywood Reporter has chimed in with their version of the story. Their report indicates that Rourke will play Ivan, who goes on to become Whiplash. They also identify Rockwell's character as that of longtime Stark rival Justin Hammer. Furthermore, they indicate that the filmmakers are casting for Stark's assistant. Her name? Natasha.

It is in the movie section too. Well at least it is now. Cool news by the way. Ready for the Dynamo, one of only a few good bad guys Iron man fights in the comics.
I kind of figured the main villan was going to be the crymson dynamo after farveau said that russia would be a story element.

That being said, I like the fact they are going for actors like Rourke & Rockwell instead of big name movie stars.
I guess after The Wrestler we're going to be hearing about Rourke being "in talks" for a bunch of stuff.
Also in a completely unrelated news, I just read Lost Season 1 & Season 2 are dropping in Blu Ray this year.

Well, I didn't read the comics so I don't know if Rourke would be a good fit for Dynamo. But ever since I saw him in Spun I've liked him as a actor. Still haven't seen The Wrestler though. The same goes for Sam Rockwell, I don't think I've ever seen a movie with him in it, that I haven't enjoyed. Anybody seen Joshua about that crazy kid and he plays the Dad? Amazing.

Whiplash was a lame villian not up to pair for IM in a movie. Everybody has to be armored up to fight IM unless it's a mutuant but I don't think they should use mutants in IM.
