hfc7036 - Gotta disagree with you - mixing Khan and Gary Mitchell into one character wouldn't make sense, because it's not an alternate universe, it's an alternate timeline, and that's a pretty important distinction.

unrelated, but isn't Alt. timeline the same as Alt. universe? Speaking scientifically of course.
Alternate universe can differ completely ala DC or Marvel's alternate universes. Some characters don't exist in one or are completely different as in gender, race, good or evil. And they share the same timeline from start to finish
Alternate timeline means a fork on the road but at one point it was the same but an event, usually someone time traveling, has caused things to take a different turn. Source Code is a perfect example of this scenario.
Yeah, maybe Spock dies and they can take him back to Vulcan where... oops, never mind.
The Spock hand on the glass scene could mean anything. I suspect this time it is Kirk who is in peril, but nothing we have seen means that either of them may die. (Maybe Kirk is in prison and Spock goes to visit him and tell him how he truly feels!) :)
Yeah I'd say alternate universes could each experience alternate timelines, but usually an alternate timeline universe doesn't imply a multi-verse.........I think..........and so does my alternate self........he thinks.......
Spock is sitting in a peep show booth and is exploring his homo erotic urges as he watches through the glass as Kirk dances a strip tease. Kirk puts his hand on the glass and spock reaches out for him.... No one dies but this puts new meaning to the phrase, "being in the captains seat".
Ya, I agree that it doesn't make sense to kill one of the main characters. They are still trying to establish and build relationships. Spock and Kirk barely know each other let alone like each other. I don't think it would make a very moving drama to see one of them bite the dust at this stage of their young friendship. In the original wrath of kahn people's jaws were hitting the floor because they couldn't believe spock actually died. There were years of time for the audience to connect to the characters and in turn feel empathy for kirk when he was crushed. I don't think anything like that could be replicated at this point as we are just getting to know the "new timeline" characters.
Trailer is available on trailer addict, looks very interesting.
