Urusei Yatsura Anime Going Out Of Print

End of an era as the license draws to a close

It's the end of an era as AnimEigo has announced that its biggest series that they've worked on probably the longest will be drawing to a close come September of this year. They're not able to renew their license on the series so what's on hand is about all there is. Urusei Yatsura is the series that they started releasing in the early 90's at a time when all we were getting for the most part was either dubbed (and incomplete) series or OVAs and some movies and is one hundred percent responsible for my being an anime fan to this day as I was ready to move on to something else at that point since it was all looking the same. Urusei Yatsura gave me something new, very cultural and engaging to watch as well as incredibly funny. We will be lamenting this loss heavily.

*Urusei Yatsura to go out of print on 30-September-2011*

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that we will be unable to renew our license for Urusei Yatsura (http://animeigo.com/products/anime/urusei-yatsura). We will be unable to accept orders after the 30th of September, 2011, and individual DVDs will almost certainly become unavailable before that date as our stocks become exhausted.

So if you've always been meaning to complete your collection of UY, now is the time.

This is a fantastic and fun series! So sad to see it going out of print but it has been around for a couple of decades now so.... I highly recommend this series and Right Stuf and Animeigo's site are the best place to pick it up! I just filled in my holes...will you? :)

I'm not gonna lament over its loss.  UY is one of those anime titles that needed to die much sooner than this.

You say that cause you suck though.

Hectotane: Urusei Yatsura is an anime classic. Losing this will be a sad event...

I am glad that late last year, I did a bulk order with animeigo and bought the whole set together,

might have to get another set to keep new

I've never even heard of this but it looks like the 80's type of comedy anime al la lupin that I dispise....

You know...  I've stopped wondering about the type of people who enjoy shows like UY a long time ago.  Who enjoys watching a person like Ataru continue to "fail @ life."  Or atleast doesn't have a negative stance against it.  Maybe they enjoy the cute girls for the supporting characters herein.

Aside from the few, shining attempts by the Japanese animu industry the prove that they're not "talentless losers supporting talentless losers" (Juuden-chan, anything between Marvel and Madhouse), I've basically wrote off the industry and its fanbase as a bunch of cruel introverts who need to have something life-threatening happen to them in order to appreciate (the) living.

Because, you know.  I've yet to find or see and anime where a young guys successfully fights off an alien girls (in a show that's not like Tenchi Muyo and created "for the lulz").
