The upcoming WW II thriller Valkyrie has been moved yet again by MGM and United Artists. The first move a few months ago pushed them back from this summer to an October 3 debut. Now, it's been changed to February 13, 2009 where Tom Cruise and his cast will be taking on Jason Voorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th revisionist tale.

"MGM is proud and excited to be presenting 'Valkyrie,' and because of that we want to give it the best launch possible," said Clark Woods, President of Domestic Distribution of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, which is distributing the movie domestically. "When an opening became available for President's Day Weekend, we seized the opportunity. Having seen a lot of the film and how great it is going to play once it's finished, moving into a big holiday weekend is the right move."

"'Valkyrie' is shaping up to be a phenomenal movie," said Dennis Rice, President of Worldwide Marketing and Publicity for United Artists, which made the movie. "We're delighted that MGM has agreed to hold the release until the very strong holiday weekend."

I was always under the impression that Jan and Feb was where movies went to die. Maybe they think the film is so good it won't have any real competition. I don't consider Jason real competition either, unless they make it pg13 and 3D. I hope I didn't give them any ideas.

I think this is a troubling development for the film. An October release gives a film some momentum for an Oscar run. The fact that this gets delayed till February maybe means it isn't good enough to even try.

Yeah February is where releases go to die.

No reason for this move. Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas would have been fine. I wonder if that book on Tom is effecting him?

They keep moving in hopes people forget how insane Mr. Cruise has become or because they think the film will bomb.
Who wants to see Nazi stuff on Valentine's day?

Actually, hanso, my Lady has a real nice Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS outfit we like to break out that day.

Maybe this will encompass reshoots to show the handi-capped SS officer, played by Kevin Spacey, was behind it the whole time.

Now, if only they can keep Tom Cruise from promoting this movie, it might have a chance.

"MGM is proud and excited to be presenting 'Valkyrie.."
Yes, proud like the parents of their below average kid who at 15 finally gets it right at tying his shoe laces. "Oh Tommy, we are so proud of you! Tommy, put the dog doodie down. Its not a play thing"
