Cool! I really liked Band of Brothers. It was one of those TV events that you have to watch from beginning to end, like North and South without the accents and bad love stories.

Awesome I have been waiting a long time for this. I cant watch Band of Brothers enough. I am glad they are starting this up FINALLY. As long as they keep the same look and feel as the original.

This is great news. Band of Brothers was an amazing series. As a WWII buff, I was always more interested in the Pacific theater of battle, so I can't wait for this series to hit the small screen.

I agree wessmith. The pacific front always seemed for interesting and exciting. Hope there's episodes on dogfights and naval battles.

Awesome. Love Band of Brothers. This is great news.
I really enjoy the europe theater of war better, but in general I am fascinated with World War II. Don't get me wrong I think war is horrible, but I just enjoy every movie and book about it. I think that's why Raiders is my favorite movie, because Nazis are the bad guys. Well one of the reasons.
I do love the naval battle stuff of the pacific, but I have a feeling this will be more on land. Who knows, though.
wessmith, you were a navy guy right? Do you think that's why you like the pacific better?

I know both fronts of the war were brutal and bloody, but those battles for small pacific islands were just frightfully sick. I just watched Letter from Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers. Both really good movies showing the war from both sides and telling you one thing. War Sucks no matter what side you`re on. I don`t think Pacific will be as two-sided but the general stories of heroism , mixed in with tragedy and showing what war was like back then is what I`m looking forward to seeing.

I may just subscribe to HBO during this run.
I hope they talk about the navy, maybe featuring it in an episode, but it'll be good to see the experience of the groundpounder in the Pacific theater.

I am looking forward to this too. However, it will have to be significantly different from Band of Brothers in both feel and execution. Band of Brothers followed one company of paratroopers from training through the end of the war. A series about the Pacific war could not do that. As far as I know, there was no single unit that was involved in enough actions across the theater of operations that could stand in as a representative for the entire Pacific War.

Also, the nature of the Pacific war was very different. Amphibious warfare, island hopping, naval warfare and carrier airstrikes all characterize the Pacific war. To exclude any one feature would be problematic in any attempt to dramatize the war. Though, Band of Brothers was able to leave out Africa, Italy and any mention of the entire Russian front and still be an amazing dramatic series about World War II.

I guess I will have to trust that Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg know what they are doing. Very rarely have I been disappointed in their work.

This sounds great! BOB was very well made.

Hey, I heard that there is also a Ken Burns Documentary coming out this year chronicling the Second World War. Any idea when it airs?

Good stories need conflict and what better conflict than a war.

-BEGIN RANT-
What made BOB so great were (among other things) the characters. The situations these men found themselves in and how they dealt with them while gaining (except for "Ross") respect and admiration for one another were real poignant statements on life.

It has been said many times that nothing good comes of war. I disagree. While war is disastrous, horrifying, brutal, and what other adjective you'd like to tack on it also provides great stories, new technologies, freedom from tyranny and ultimately, a true respect for human life. This, of course, is not true in all cases, but war does sometimes bring out the best in people and here's hoping that the next saga of BOB brings out more great stories of some truly admirable men.
-END OF RANT-
