What They Say
From Writer Nikukyuu (Slave Sisters / Girl Next Door / MeiKing) and Producers Shiyuuta Biwajima andChikara Niki (Slave Sisters / Girl Next Door / DARK / Campus / MeiKing) with Character Designs by Ken Raika (Dark / Bondage Mansion), comes a quest for the truth through one doctor’s twisted desires.

The locals know all about Dr. Fuwa. His reputation for taking advantage of his female patients has left him little to do except his nurse Megumi. When he’s suddenly called in to investigate a mysterious illness that’s been affecting the nuns on a remote island, Dr. Fuwa’s certainly not above having a little fun with the patients – each and every one of them a cute little nun-in-training. But will he be able to uncover the truth behind their terrible condition?

The Review!
The latest Vanilla Series release has one of the best titles around.

Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The series sports at typical stereo mix that’s most center channel based outside of a few segments and the music. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions.

Video:
Originally released in early 2003, Holy Virgins is a nice fresh transfer that looks quite good. Colors are strong and vibrant without any noticeable bleeding or over saturation. Cross coloration is very minimal and there’s just some aliasing during various panning sequences.

Packaging:
Going for those with the nun fetish, the front cover has the imagery of a woman in a habit that’s otherwise naked kissing another completely naked woman with the title along the top, complete with halo. There’s nothing subtle here at all. The back cover goes for the bondage look with one of the girls while the rest if given over to the story summary and a list of the discs features and extras. As with other Vanilla Series releases, there is no insert with this disc.

Menu:
The main menu is a decent one with some animation playing along the top left quarter of the screen showing various incidents from the show set to the ending music. Selections are quick and easy to access and moving around is fast with no menu transitions. My only complaint, and it’s a big one, is the inability to press stop during any of the menus. You actually have to start the program to be able to stop the disc. That’s a particular no no for hentai since people often have the need to stop what they’re looking at for a variety of reasons.

Extras:
The only extras included is a brief image gallery and the trailer made for the US release.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
If there’s one thing to be said of the Vanilla Series overall, it’s that they definitely hit a wide variety of genres and go for every fetish. If you’re like the lead character in this show and have tired of nurses, why nuns may be what you need!

The story centers on Dr. Fuwa, a fairly perverted doctor who has been removed from the university research staff and essentially kicked out of proper medicine so that he has to start his own clinic. His patients tend to not stick around long, not caring for his style they tend to ignore his advice and seek other opinions. So with his chart wide open, Fuwa spends his time screwing his nurse, Megumi. He fears though that he’ll lose his taste for nurses with as often as he takes her and wonders what he can do to fix the situation.

Enter a friend from Toto University who has a strange case that Fuwa might be able to help with. The woman is a nun in training who every night slips into a deep sleep like a coma. She awakens each morning without issue and has no memory of the event. But strangely, when she’s been looked at during her visit to the University, she hasn’t slipped into the deep sleep. Thinking that it may be something involved with the island where she’s training to become a nun, Fuwa takes Megumi and they head there to check things out.

The island is fairly strange in itself, with all kinds of oddities happening as the pair arrives. Seagulls attack Megumi, something they’ve never done to anyone else, and dogs just don’t eat anymore and are dying all over the place as well as the fishing levels have gone way down. Fuwa ends up working with the head nun, Sister Kate, as well as the three primary nuns in training on the island to determine what’s going on. There’s some slight contact with the Father who is running things in general on the island, but he’s background for quite some time and doesn’t become terribly involved.

With rumors of a curse on the island, Fuwa begins his investigation but eventually finds himself taking advantage of the three girls, though he doesn’t seem like he’s intending to for the most part but rather is influenced by the curse. As he gets with each girl, new elements are learned about the curse and its effects on the inhabitants, so much so that he gets involved in demonic hallucinations about oversized plants that try to strangle him while he’s having sex with Sister Kate. To say that it gets weird and trippy by the second episode is an understatement and the entire rash of demonic and Satan worshipping elements start to bubble to the surface.

While the story starts to get really strange after awhile, the animation is pretty decent and not the sub par quality of some recent shows we’ve seen. The character designs are for the most part pleasing on the eye and there’s some nice variation in hair color and styles that sets some of the girls apart from the standard you usually get in hentai. There’s the usual amount of repeated animation throughout the various sex scenes but nothing that’s really outstanding. The scenes themselves are decent but some of them get into the really strange area of fetishes I’d rather not know about.

Holy Virgins is something that’s for people who are like the main character and are looking for some variety in their hentai staple. Move beyond the nurses a bit and make room for the nuns!
