Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn and comics creator Mark Millar are set to re-team on a feature film version of Millar's just re-released graphic novel 'American Jesus', according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The book, which was titled 'Chosen' during its original mini-series run, focused on the life of a man who discovers at a young age that he has miraculous powers. Believing that he has been chosen by a higher power he rises to become a leader in the modern world. The book was just released in trade paperback form this week. It features artwork by Peter Gross.

Vaughn is currently putting the finishing touches on the movie version of Millar's 'Kick-Ass'. The director filmed the movie independently and aims to release it later this year.

Vaughn aims to produce 'Jesus' with his Marv Films partner Kris Thykier and follow the 'Kick-Ass' model to independent financing. Production will supposedly begin this summer.

The 'American Jesus' comics will continue in a second volume, which is due out later this year.

Gee. Can't see any religious groups having a problem with this one...

I only read his stuff if Marvel publishes it. So I guess I'll catch this at the movies.

Sounds like Dogma all over again without the comedy.

Ok, not that I'm complaining or anything...just pointing this out.  But have anyone noticed that a few writers from across the pond always seem to write about America and our culture?  Especially when it comes to religion here in the states.  I think this is rather an interesting trend.

Garth Ennis wrote Preacher which was very western American so to speak.  He's one that comes to mind.

It just seems a lot of American writers here don't write about this kind of stuff here.  Why is that?  Where are the Mark Waids, Joss Whedons, and Geoff Johns who takes risks in their storytelling when it comes to this material?  I'm not saying it has to be just religion.  But the violence, our culture, the celebrity frenzy here in America seems to get a lot of writing from international writers.

Why is that?  Thoughts anyone?

OK ONE EFFING QUESTION...

When the hell is the next Issue of Kic-Ass coming out???  I'm still on like 4 or 5, where is the new one. Will this acr end before the movie, or do we have to see the movie to see how it ends??

I love me some Millar, but I'm getting tired of waiting.

SAME THING FOR WAR HEROES!!!!Is issue 3 out yet, or 4 it's been so long, but I think the last one I got was #2?!!!!

jmg, think people, europeans mostly, find it intriguing that for all our faults we're still a very religious country that at the same time loves guns and is fairly violent. Especially when compared to Western Europe. And I think it may be easier for a foreigner to analyze us in some ways without being accused too heavily by anyone of pushing an agenda. Where if an American wrote it he may feel some heat from one group or another. So these jerks from overseas take liberties pointing out our faults and contradictions, just who the hell do they think they are? Ok I'm just kidding, well, partially kidding anyway

Then again I don't know what the hell I'm talking about

Fuck millar. Give me Preacher already!

I know it is childish, but I love to see all the "Churchies" get upset over something like this. It just proves how dumb they really are. Actually, that goes for anyone that gets upset over a movie, Comic, Radio Show, TV Show, Book,,,etc.....like Dogma had an awesome point to the movie, but like most things, it is protested before people even really know what it's about.....Sad
