To this day Kong 1976 remains the King of the godawful remake. The movie is jaw-droppingly bad, but has found something of a cult niche as a guilty pleasure among cheesehounds like myself. Frankly, how any viewer can possibly resist the charm of its outlandish performances, ludicrous plot and dialogue, pervy Kong and not-so-special FX is beyond me. Look man this is the best we could @#$%ing do in 1976, okay? Or then again maybe it wasn't. At any rate I believe the immortal words of hack producer Dino De Laurentiis apply best: "No one cry when Jaws die. But when monkey die, people gonna cry." Right on, big D. Just maybe for different reasons than you think!
