After being crowned in last year's Best Picture (THE RETURN OF THE KING), actor Viggo Mortensen has agreed to star in the adaptation of the graphic novel A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. Mortensen will play the film's central character, the head of a family who is suddenly thrust into a national spotlight when he acts in self-defense and takes the life of a thug holding up his diner.
David Cronenberg (SPIDER) will direct the film for New Line Cinema. The original work was written by John Wagner and illustrated by Vince Locke.
