Vin Diesel is developing a 'groundbreaking' animated television series that will span the life of Hannibal. The film will follow Hannibal from his tutelage as a warrior under his father, to his scaling of the Alps on the backs of elephants, to his invasion of Italy.

Six episodes of the series have been ordered by BET and will be aired during prime time in the fall of 2007.

BET's Senior VP of Animation Denys Cowan had the following to say, "This isn't a Saturday morning show -- we want to be able to show a lot more of the drama and action that you expect to see in prime time."

Diesel's big screen take on HANNIBAL is still stuck in development heck, though the plan is still to make the film.

Nothing new here, Vin Diesel has put in his time for the great Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay game, which was very successful and popular, he contributed to Dark Fury-Riddick animated story, so seeing him involved in this Hannibal animated production is no big surprise.

The word "cartoon" doesn't do justice to certain productions, the word "animated" gives a sense of class to these productions.

Vin, I love ya like a brother (at least until THE PACIFIER) but what do you think all those un-hatched chickens you're counting will be like?

They say development HECK, but they had the F-bomb in another article. Doesn't that seem strange?

CodenameV, I never saw the Pacifier, but a lot of stars do the family movies as they age. I think it's cool. Arnold did more than one. Kindergarten Cop anyone. Twins. Twins was funny.

WTF? Ok, is there really a huge demand in the black community for an animated mini-series following the life of Hannibal?

I have not been a fan of the idea that Vin Diesel would play Hannibal in a feature film. But I actually think this animated show could work. This is why: People don't think this, but there are a hell of a lot of us black folk who like anime lol So if they take the style of anime and apply it to this, it could work. They mention it being in prime time, hopefully it would take the adult tone of some of the shows on AdultSwim...

I for one wouldn't mind seeing this take a tone similar to Samurai Champloo. Meaning, the animation style, adult tone, music of course (which would fit being that it is on BET), and other things.

But I think this is the ONLY way it would work. If you are throwing a kiddy show in primetime and just trying to make it a little more serious, I will pass on it (and many others will as well).

Hmmm... remember Reign: The Conquerer (the Alexander the Great anime show)? It was out there on the sci fi end, but it was interesting and epic still.

Again, I think it could work, but there is a good chance this could get screwed up...

I could write development hell if I wanted, a pile of development shit if i was really feeling edgy, in the end, I decided to plug our development heck section.

From BET then I will assume that they will assume Hannibal was black...the same camp that think Cleopatra and other Pharoahs were

Well, I'll look forward to this one. Sounds like it'll be a good animated series. What I'm wondering is when the next Chronicles of Riddick movie will be coming out.

"What I'm wondering is when the next Chronicles of Riddick movie will be coming out."

I think Hell has time to freeze over in the next week or so.
