Virgin & Mostow Ready for MEGAS Comic

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Source: Variety

Jonathan Mostow will partner with Virgin Comics to develop a feature from The Megas, reports Variety.  It's unclear whether Mostow will pen the screenplay or direct the graphic novel created by John Harrison and Peter Rubin. Mostow, Virgin's Gotham Chopra and Sharad Devarajan will begin shopping the spec around Hollywood shortly. Mostow will also begin production on the Bruce Willis-led futuristic action-thriller Surrogates in eight weeks in preparation for a November 2009 theatrical bow for Disney.

Plot Concept:
The storyline of The Megas revolves around Detective Jack Madison and his race-against-the-clock investigation to uncover secrets behind the mysterious sex-fueled suicide of a Prince in The Megas royal family. Meanwhile, the King is on his deathbed at The White Palace (same location as The White House), and society is bracing for the inevitable chaos that will surely ensue once he dies. As one controversial truth after another is revealed, Detective Madison finds himself entrenched in lies, corruption and. well.. I guess as much as things change, they still stay the same.

If it's not Marvel or DC I've probably not heard of it. As is the case here and to be honest, just going by the plot concept, it doesn't sound that interesting to me. Doesn't mean it won't make a good film, we'll see.
It's just amazing how the success of Spidey has moved all the studios to take a look at the good old comic for new ideas. Comic writers are becoming the new stars of Hollywood. Good for them to finally get some recognition for their work.

I wish Virgin would actually support the comics it is supposed to be printing. They have totally under-estimated the popularity of Ennis' Dan Dare run. if you don't get it on the first day of release then forget it.

Who know, we may get a proper Judge Dredd movie one day (what ever happened to the 2 movies that disappeared in to development Hell back in 2001).

How about adding another thousand to the print run?

I'm loving that graphic novels are now recognized as legitimate literature with varied content. From sci-fi and superheroes to human drama and action. All of which is source material for movies.

Maybe I'm just exhausted right now, and too tired to care, but I don't get the plot.

When i saw this headline i thought they were makinga comic from Megas XLR. wrrlykam. I'm with you on a new Dredd movie. Those other 2 that were supposed to be made I think fell into oblivion.
