What They Say

The Review!
And we're back again for Disc Three! Once again the fascinating characters of Masami Obari return for three more episodes: "Another Boy Missing", "Behold Change or Die" and "Reactivate the Body".
A quick overview of the basic story: Virus Buster Serge takes place in 2097, in Neo Hong Kong. The denizens of earth are currently being threatened by an entity that calls himself the Incubator, who has created an evil virus that can infect both man and machine. Enter STAND, a group of elite individuals encased in really cool powered armor suits, "Variable Gears", used to great effect fighting rampant virus infected Armored Gears (your standard mecha).

The reluctant hero of the series is Serge, driven to join STAND against his will.

Audio and video quality is once again in keeping with the previous two discs in the series, which is very good. Beam has been putting out some great discs in Japan lately; it seems like most of the titles I've been getting lately are from them.

I like the menus on these discs ? nicely presented with options for "All Play", "Story Play" and each episode by chapter (branches to submenus). The background images used in the menus on this volume are great as well ? really nice shots of the girls, not to mention the moody music track.

Extra materials for this volume include the ending sequences presented "clean" (no credit text) and a "Data Establishment" section with tons of highly detailed production drawings. Truly incredible stuff ? I love seeing things like this. If every volume in the set contains this much extra material, it'll be amazing.

This series continues to be fun ? and hey, I'd watch it just to see Erika and Mirei. (Just check out the fan service on the disc cover; Mirei doing some "web surfing"! Whew!)
