Viz Media has made quite a splash with anime fans this weekend at the San Diego Comic Con where they do tend to have a larger presence than at most other conventions that are anime focused throughout the year. Viz has made three new licensing announcements, none of which are that much of a surprise but are very welcome all told. The first is that they have acquired the new Inu Yasha anime series that's in production which continues on from the manga which brings the whole franchise to a Takahashi style conclusion. The second is that they have acquired the rights to the anime series Kekkaishi and Vampire Knight, both of which they publish the manga of. No dates are yet set for any of these though 2010 is the earliest that we'll see them by all expectations.
Of real surprise is that Viz Media finally talked about its plans for the seventy-five episode series Monster by Naoki Urasawa. Urasawa's works are gaining traction once again with the recent acquisition of the live action movie trilogy of 20th Century Boys of which Viz also publishes the manga as well as Urasawa's work on the series Pluto. In December, we'll be seeing the first Monster box set which will contain fifteen episodes, which means we'll see five box sets total for it.

Hot dog Monster coming out in December. Sure it may only be 15 episodes but at least it is coming. This could be a great christmas gift. My only hope is that Monster comes with an english language track. Now if only VIZ would put out a box set of the Monster manga collection it would be perfect news all around.
