While performing a press junket for his upcoming WE OWN THE NIGHT drama, actor Mark Wahlberg was asked about his involvement in the production of G.I JOE. Heather Newgen posed the following question because of persistant rumors from numerous sources that he was up for the leading role in the Stephen Sommers adaptation.

ComingSoon.net: Are you still up for the role of Duke in "G.I. Joe"?
Mark Wahlberg: Oh, I have no idea. Lorenzo [di Bonaventura] was talking about it months back, when we were promoting "Shooter" but I haven't seen a script.

No actors are currently attached to the G.I JOE production and the only rumored attachment hasn't seen a script yet. This film was previously announced to be on a fast track to filming before the impending June 2008 strike. Stephen Sommers won the directing gig for the film after the studio loved his story pitch. Without a script or a cast, it's questionable whether this film makes the June 2008 deadline.

They just better make sure Duke is from St. Louis and he better be wearing a red cap with the interlocking StL on it and not one with a P or a B. Bastids!

Mark should be Flint not Duke.
Duke should be some blonde flat topped Jar head.

Whalberg is a good solid actor. I just hope he's in the movie somwhere, hopefully as Flint, or Barbeque.
I love that guy.
BTW Whats up with the graphic for GI Joe up there?

Didn't shooter come out last year or very early this year - no script since then - This movie is not going to be made in the next 12 months

I just hope this will be a lot different than

the Transformers movie. What I expect is

that this new movie won't be dark and

actually have a soundtrack to listen to if

this movie is going to be worth watching.

I don't understand why Mark Walberg would

be cast as Duke. That's sounds like a big

risk. I wouldn't mind seen a unknown actor

playing Duke. Maybe it will be less of risk

for the producers to lose a lot of money.

There was a GI Joe Convention in Atlanta over the weekend. Here is footage of a 300 action figure parachute drop in the hotel's atrium:

Don't know if any of them are Duke, Flint, Snake eyes or Sgt. Slaughter.

Nah, the movie has to be darker than what is depicted in the comic book series, though not too dark to earn an R rating.

I'm worried that some of the JOE's gears and hardware will be too over-the-top. Let just say I have traumatic flashbacks of MEGA-FORCE.
