It seems that Mark Wahlberg and Jason Statham may be reuniting once again (The Italian Job) in the live action G.I JOE, says IESB. Robert Sanchez was the first to report from his inside sources that Stephen Sommers would be directing the live action version adaptation of the animated classic and now those same sources are indicated that Wahlberg is in the lead running to play top Joe character, Duke.
Jason Statham is also in the top running for Duke's british counterpart, Action Man. They're also reporting that producer di Bonaventura will be utilizing a bit of both scripts handed to them, Skip Wood’s script will have used as the origins aspects will be used alongside the Elliott/Lovett script's character storylines. Word has it that the studio and producers are keen to make this film more "global" oriented where the characters won't just be American or British giving it a more international feel to avoid negativity.
Big thanks to Maniac scooper, "almostunbiased", for passing this word along to me.

I guess I don't see Walberg playing Duke at all. He needs to be someone a bit older and more mature.
he's a fine actor but, it just doesn't seem right to me.
