With just one more episode to air this coming weekend, AMC is wasting no time in trying to keep up with some of the buzz for its hits series Walking Dead. With the fifth episode having higher ratings than the debut episode in its primary slot, the series is defying expectations across the board. AMC is looking to release the first season of six episodes on DVD and Blu-ray on March 8th, giving it just over three months from the season ending to home video, which is pretty good for Hollywood. The next season of thirteen episodes has been ordered and is likely to wait until October 2011 and AMC will use the home video release to prop up interest until then, along with re-airings more than likely.
Amazon now has preorders available for The Walking Dead: Season One DVD priced at $27.99, and The Walking Dead: Season One Blu-ray at $34.99.
Plot Summary: Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) finds himself utterly alone. The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The Walking Dead is an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival. A survivalist story at its core, the series explores how the living are changed by the overwhelming realization that those who survive can be far more dangerous that the mindless walkers roaming the earth. They themselves have become the walking dead.
